Job Title: Java Developer (eDV Cleared) Duration: 5 Months Initially Location: Manchester, Cheltenham or London Max Rate: £825p/d max via Umbrella Clearance required: eDV Role Overview: We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and deployment of secure, scalable systems supporting national security missions. This role requires deep technical expertise in Back End development, containerisation, and system integration, along with the ability to work closely with stakeholders in high-trust environments. Key Responsibilities: Lead Back End development using Java and Python, ensuring high performance and reliability Architect and manage object store configurations and containerised environments Build and deploy applications using Docker and Kubernetes Design and optimise relational databases using SQL Integrate third-party software and develop Scripting/glue code for seamless system interoperability Oversee the development and deployment of web-based user interfaces Collaborate with cross-functional teams and national security stakeholders to deliver mission-critical solutions Apply Agile methodologies to drive iterative development and continuous improvement Diagnose and resolve complex system faults and errors with a structured problem-solving approach Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences Required Skills & Experience: Extensive experience in Java and Python Back End development Strong knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration Proficiency in object store configuration and secure data handling Solid understanding of SQL and relational database design Proven experience integrating third-party software and Scripting for system automation Demonstrated ability to build and deploy web UIs Experience working in or closely with national security missions Strong analytical and fault-tracing capabilities Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills Agile mindset with experience leading Agile teams or initiatives Preferred Qualifications: Security clearance or eligibility to obtain one Experience in secure software development practices Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps principles
