Location: Cambridge (CB25) Duration: Permanent Hours: 37.5 per week 8am - 4pm (Monday to Friday) Salary: Competitive Job Reference: 36071 Polytec are looking for a Mechanical Engineer for a local technology company to support the transition of products from development into production. This role will focus on improving manufacturability, developing processes and supporting ongoing production operations. Responsibilities: - Support the introduction of new products into manufacturing, ensuring designs are suitable for production and assembly - Collaborate with design teams to deliver practical, manufacturable mechanical solutions - Design and develop tooling, fixtures, jigs and test equipment - Create and maintain clear assembly instructions, build procedures and production documentation - Establish and improve manufacturing processes to ensure consistency, quality and efficiency - Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost, improve quality and shorten build times - Provide hands-on support to resolve mechanical issues in production and testing environments - Carry out root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for production issues - Support engineering change and configuration control processes - Work closely with manufacturing, quality and supply chain teams, including supplier interaction where required Requirements: Essential: - Degree (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical Engineering or similar - Experience in manufacturing, production engineering or mechanical design - Proficient with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks or similar) - Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and assembly methods - Experience designing tooling, fixtures or test equipment - Proven problem-solving skills within a production environment - Strong communication and documentation skills - Able to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment - Hands-on, proactive and adaptable approach Desirable: - Experience supporting products from prototype to production is beneficial - Knowledge of DFM/DFA, lean manufacturing and engineering change processes is advantageous Please contact us as soon as possible for more details or apply below!
