Note: This role will start as a day time only role, working hours for the first six months are 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday. After 6 months this will become a shift based role, which may include night shifts. There is no weekend working. Salary: This role offers a salary in the range of 30,000 - 35,000 (including shift bonus) per annum, depending on experience, once shifts start after 6 months. Higher salaries may be considered for more experienced candidates. Materials Technician Role duties: Composite/adhesive panel fabrication, machining and destructive mechanical testing of composite and adhesive specimens. Support all functions, customers, and suppliers. Maintain accurate records of all work carried out. Manage projects and project documentation to an auditable level. To be successful in this role you will need: Practical and hands-on experience with operating machining equipment - e.g. CNC, Grinders, Cutting Equipment. Experience with composite panel fabrication or using universal test machines and data acquisition software (highly desirable). Strong knowledge of composite materials including matrix & reinforcement technologies. Working knowledge of ERP systems/LIMS software. At least three years' industrial experience (highly desirable). As a Precision Grinder / Toolmaker, you will be responsible for crafting, modifying and maintaining the custom tools, jigs, fixtures and moulds used in production. You will operate advanced manual and CNC grinding machines to shape metal and alloys to extremely strict geometric tolerances, often within a few microns. Key Duties: Set up and operate a variety of grinding machines, including surface, cylindrical, universal, and tool and cutter grinders, to shape raw materials. Read and interpret complex engineering drawings and 2D/3D CAD models to manufacture parts to precise specifications. Utilise precision measurement instruments such as micrometres, vernier callipers, gauges and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to ensure product conformity. Troubleshoot tooling breakdowns, repair dies and fixtures, and determine whether a tool can be fixed on the machine or requires removal to the toolroom. Perform routine maintenance on grinding equipment, dress grinding wheels, and maintain a clean and safe workspace. Requirements: Strong ability to work to minute tolerances and meet critical geometrical tolerancing requirements. Understanding of various metals, alloys and material properties. Ability to use hand tools such as files and hacksaws for bench fitting and fine finishing. Ideally completed an apprenticeship in Toolmaking, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline. Tool Technician Based in Wotton, Surrey (Own transport is required due to Rural location) Monday - Friday / 8am - 4.30pm The Tool technician is tasked with supporting the production department daily, based in the tool room. Working with other team members cleaning and servicing of Injection moulding tools with timely turnaround to maintain production schedules. The cleaning and servicing of the injection moulding tools requires good attention to detail and quality of workmanship that are vital to this role. What You'll Be Doing The Tooling technician will be servicing and cleaning injection mould tools, stripping them down for cleaning, inspecting for issues and reporting any found, reassembling the tools after servicing, and returning the tools to the production department. On occasion other responsibilities for the repair, maintenance, and calibration of tools, jigs, fixtures, and instruments may be required Daily servicing & cleaning of mould tools in the tool room or in the factory. Carrying out the repairs, modifications and servicing of injection moulding tools and other associated tooling. Document service & repair work by completing electronic records, including photographs of issues documented. At times support production by completing cleans or repairs in the clean room factory. To carry out, cleaning and servicing on other toolroom and production equipment as required from time to time. Assist in equipment repairs and breakdown if required. Maintaining a clean and safe working environment. What You'll Bring You will hold a C&G's, NVQ or Apprenticeship trained Solid experience in mechanical assembly & disassembly and basic wiring. Experience of Manual and CNC machine tools to include all or some of the following: Surface Grinder, CNC, VMC, Milling and Centre Lathe Mechanical Engineering / toolmaker apprenticeship, with experience in injection molding tools although not essential. High precision injection tooling, polishing, and finishing experience is desirable. Hot runner experience and multi-cavity high is also advantageous Be able to read and understand 2D component Drawings, experience with wiring drawings also advantageous Core Computer skills using email, excel and word documents.
