Senior Quantity Surveyor - Bedfordshire We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our clients commercial team delivering major civils and infrastructure projects across commercial projects. This role requires strong experience in heavy civil engineering and groundworks and demonstrable expertise administering JCT Forms of Contract. The successful candidate will take commercial responsibility for projects from pre-construction through to final account, ensuring effective cost control, contract administration, and risk management. Key responsibilities Lead commercial management of civils and infrastructure projects. Administer and manage contracts under JCT Prepare, review, and negotiate subcontract agreements Manage Early Warning Notices and Compensation Events under JCT Oversee cost forecasting, budgeting, and reporting Prepare and assess interim applications and valuations Conduct cost value reconciliation (CVR) and financial reporting Manage change control processes and risk registers Lead subcontractor procurement and commercial negotiations Provide contractual advice to project and site teams Prepare and agree final accounts Ensure compliance with company governance and client requirements Essential requirements Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civils and infrastructure projects on non-residential projects Strong working knowledge and practical experience administering JCT Contracts Demonstrable experience managing Compensation Events and Early Warnings Experience in cost reporting and financial control on multi-million-pound projects Strong understanding of construction law and contract principles Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills Desirable Experience working for a Main Contractor or Civils Contractor Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously Key competencies Commercial acumen Analytical and detail-oriented Strong communication and leadership skills Proactive and solutions-focused Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Your new role As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in managing project costs, value, and contractual relationships from mobilisation through to final account settlement on Sizewell C. Key responsibilities include: Procuring specialist trades and advising on subcontractor appointments Drafting and managing subcontract agreements and valuations Reviewing design developments and advising on cost implications Identifying value engineering opportunities Preparing and agreeing monthly valuations with the Employer's Representative Participating in internal cost reporting and forecasting Supporting final account preparation and contractual advice Building strong relationships across the wider project team. What you'll need to succeed In order to be successful, you will bring: Degree/HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying (or similar) or experience equivalent Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within heavy civils Sound working knowledge of NEC form of contract Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills Proactive, career-driven mindset with ambition to progress to Senior Quantity Surveyor. Full UK driving licence. Senior QS with Civils & Infrastructure experienced is required for this National Contractor Hays Civil Engineering are delighted to be working alongside this National Civil Engineering Contractor in supporting their recruitment for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will be joining their experienced Commercial team, and tasked to support the Surveying function of their projects You'll be working on a tender portfolio of projects ranging in value from £1m to £10m, with ad-hoc schemes higher than this. It'll be a mix of various Civil Engineering projects, and you'll be carrying out the full spectrum of works, from precontract to final account, with an emphasis on contract administration, cost management and cost forecasting You will be working on multiple projects at any one time, so you must have the ability to multi-task from project to project Projects include: Heavy Civils. Earthworks, Infrastructure, RC, Substations & Utilities You must be proficient with NEC, and you must have strong contractual knowledge of NEC, and you are an experienced Senior QS with the ability to carry out CVRs and manage costs.
