Take responsibility for afternoon transport planning, including: Planning vehicle utilisation effectively Dispatching and debriefing drivers in line with company policy Ensuring all paperwork is accurately completed and correctly filed Maintaining depot compliance on the Tacho management system and ensuring all infringements are reviewed and signed off promptly Investigating and resolving any missing mileage Managing vehicle breakdowns and defects promptly Providing a clear, accurate handover at the end of the shift Carry out a full yard and deck walk-around at the start and end of each shift, checking the system and taking any necessary actions. Manage fleet compliance, including booking services and MOTs, updating records and maintaining online tracking tools. Arrange agency driver cover as required and assign them appropriately within the daily transport plan. Conduct vehicle checks, highlighting upcoming MOTs and services, and ensuring any vehicles that are off-road or without MOT are not loaded. Ensure all inbound and outbound freight is handled efficiently, placed in the correct areas for onward movement, and that held freight and returns are stored in line with procedures. Monitor staff performance, including timekeeping, appearance and use of PPE, and address any issues as appropriate. Ensure drivers complete their allocated work and that all activities are carried out in line with health & safety and operational requirements. Ensure all MHE is in the correct working area and that any defective equipment is taken out of service (VOR) and scheduled for repair. Maintain a clean, safe and tidy warehouse environment at all times. Ensure any damage identified or caused during loading/unloading is managed in accordance with the Goods in Transit process, including gathering statements where needed and taking photographs of the damage. Undertake any other reasonable duties related to transport and warehouse operations as required. Key Attributes for transport operators: Strong customer focus and a solutions-driven approach.
