Job Title Child Care Solicitor Department Family Law / Children's Services Reports To Head of Family Law / Principal Solicitor (Child Care) Purpose of the Role To provide expert legal advice, representation, and advocacy in matters relating to child care, including public law children proceedings, adoption cases, and other related matters under the Children Act 1989 and subsequent legislation. Person Specification Essential Qualifications & Experience Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive (CILEx) with full rights of advocacy. Law Society's Children Law Accreditation or equivalent. / Must be panel accredited Substantial experience in public law children proceedings, including care and adoption matters. Excellent knowledge of the Children Act 1989, Adoption and Children Act 2002, Public Law Outline, Family Procedure Rules, and related statutory frameworks. Strong advocacy, oral, and written communication skills. Proven ability to manage complex caseloads and work independently under pressure. Commitment to client-focused service and upholding professional ethics. Desirable Skills & Experience Experience mentoring or supervising junior colleagues or paralegals. Familiarity with legal aid processes, CCMS systems, and private funding arrangements. Knowledge of local government frameworks and inter-agency practice.
