The Commercial Pipefitter / Mechanical Installations Engineer is a senior field-based role responsible for the delivery of commercial mechanical pipework installations, modifications, maintenance, and commissioning support across district heating, plant room, metering, and energy infrastructure projects. The role requires a highly competent and self-sufficient engineer with strong experience across commercial pipework systems, including steel, copper, and plastic pipe installations across medium and large diameter commercial systems. The successful candidate will take ownership of projects from initial site assessment and scoping through to installation, testing, commissioning support, documentation, and handover. This is a permanent position, covering London, working Monday to Friday 37.5 hours per week. The basic salary is paying 50k - 60k per annum depending on experience. This role is skilled and will undertake to strip, repair and assemble aircraft components and sub-assemblies. As a Skilled Operator, your role has an increased level of self-management, empowerment and a disciplined outlook to your everyday working. Skilled status also carries the responsibility for problem solving, team working and a will to succeed with the business. Essential Responsibilities EHS - Promote a safe workplace environment without risk to health and minimising the impact to the environment. Ensure that all Environmental, Health and Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and that all accidents and incidents are reported Clocking and Booking - Ensure that all required clockings (time and attendance) and bookings (job costings) are made in an accurate and timely manner Housekeeping - Ensure that workstations are kept clean and maintained, with all tools and equipment stored correctly. Uphold a clear desk policy Quality - Ensure that all Quality standards, processes and procedures are complied with. All work is completed with care and attention minimising wastage Cost Management - Support cost reduction and management initiatives through reducing unnecessary expenditure Knowledge & Skills - Keep knowledge and training up to date for necessary operations to the best of your knowledge and belief to achieve specification and acceptable standards for your role. For example, Approved Operator (AO) stamp(s) to be kept up to date Team Working - Must actively participate in team meetings and be prepared to share knowledge, coach and mentor trainees when required, be willing to be trained in other areas Any other reasonable duties that fall in line with the level of the role Role Specific Duties Will include but is not limited to: Reporting directly to the section Flow Leader, participate within a team and work with functional specialists (such as engineering, Quality, etc) to ensure production requirements are achieved safely, on time and to the customer specifications Read and follow work instructions, specifications and part drawings (accessed via PC) Read and interpret engineering data, technical drawings, specifications, repair schemes, Manufacturing Procedures (MPs) and other approved maintenance data Accurately complete work route cards to maintain component traceability Measuring and marking out of materials to carry out close tolerance hand fitting processes Precision drilling, countersink, reaming and finishing of holes in aircraft structure assemblies Application of assembly techniques including riveting, mechanical fasteners and other bonding processes Sealing and jointing techniques for environmental protection and painting, alocrome of aircraft structures Application of bush and bearing installation Application of part mark on aircraft assemblies/sub-assemblies Assembly of pipework for various types of aircraft Alignment, pressure, electrical bonding testing and functional testing Preferred Candidate Requirements NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Engineering or Manufacturing, or Time-served apprenticeship in allied trades Numeracy, literacy and IT skills, and able to read and understand technical documentation, including via computer/IT equipment Good planning and problem- solving skills Working understanding of the 5 S and lean principles Strong work ethic supported by a real positive attitude to succeed Excellent communication skills Demonstrate the currency and competency of the key skill codes required within department Great attention to the detail and accuracy of the task requirement Proven ability to actively participate in a team culture. To be able to work with minimal supervision Shift working required There are certain aspects of this role that require mechanical / manual lifting of parts so some lifting will be required and applicants must be capable of undertaking activities with appropriate assistance if required. Desirable Qualifications / Experience Previous experience of manufacture of complex metallic and composite structures Security Clearance Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance is required and must be maintained for this role. Please note that in the event that BPSS clearance cannot be obtained, you may not be eligible for the role and/or any offer of employment may be withdrawn on grounds of national security.
