JN Technical is recruiting a Tekla Detailer on behalf of a UK structural steel contractor. You will contribute to large scale steelwork packages across a variety of sectors. Key Responsibilities: Develop accurate Tekla Structures models for building and steel structures in accordance with project specifications and industry standards. Produce Tekla models from client and design team drawings, supporting projects from initial modelling through to fabrication and erection. Generate fabrication, fitting, component, and general arrangement (GA) drawings , along with NC data. Prepare and export reports and data for STRUMIS steel fabrication software in line with workshop requirements. Ensure all models and drawings are delivered in accordance with the project fabrication programme and deadlines . Apply current UK drawing practices and standards relating to model build, connections, and fabrication detailing. Manage workload effectively while maintaining a high level of accuracy and quality across multiple projects. Requirements Minimum 5 years experience in structural steel detailing. Strong working knowledge of Tekla Structures and 3D steel modelling. Proven experience within the UK steel fabrication industry . Ability to produce approval drawings for client submission, PMLs and detailed fabrication information. Excellent time management and communication skills.

A Structural Steel Design Co-ordinator is responsible for planning, co-ordinating and monitoring the structural steel design process from initial design information through detailing, fabrication support and site installation support. The role ensures that drawings, models, calculations and technical queries are aligned with project requirements, buildability, programme, quality standards and relevant regulations. In practice, the role acts as the link between engineers, detailers, architects, fabricators, subcontractors and site teams to help deliver safe, accurate and efficient steelwork packages. Key Responsibilities • Co-ordinate the structural steel design process across internal teams, consultants, fabricators and site personnel. • Review structural and architectural drawings, specifications and design information for completeness, accuracy and buildability. • Manage design deliverables, drawing issue schedules, requests for information and technical submittals to meet programme deadlines. • Support the development and review of connection details, steel framing layouts, member sizing information and fabrication requirements. • Ensure models and drawings are co-ordinated with other disciplines, including architectural, civil and MEP requirements. • Identify clashes, discrepancies and technical risks early, and work with the project team to resolve them efficiently. • Liaise with clients, engineers, architects, subcontractors and suppliers to clarify technical requirements and maintain design progress. • Monitor compliance with relevant design codes, project specifications, health and safety requirements and quality procedures. • Provide technical support during fabrication and erection, including responding to site queries and managing design revisions. • Contribute to value engineering, sequencing reviews and practical design solutions that improve buildability, cost and programme outcomes. Required Qualifications & Experience • Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline. • Relevant experience in structural steel design, steel detailing, fabrication co-ordination or construction delivery. • Good understanding of structural steelwork, connection design principles, fabrication processes and site erection requirements. • Experience working with design and detailing software such as Tekla Structures, AutoCAD and, where relevant, Revit or other BIM platforms. • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, general arrangement drawings, fabrication drawings and specifications. • Knowledge of relevant design standards, quality procedures and project documentation requirements. • Experience of working within multi-disciplinary construction or engineering project teams. Essential Skills • Strong technical understanding of structural steel design and detailing. • Excellent co-ordination and communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. • Good planning, organisation and time management skills. • Ability to manage multiple design issues and priorities across live projects. • Problem-solving ability with a practical and buildable approach. • Attention to detail and commitment to drawing accuracy and document control. • Competence in Microsoft Office and common project/document management systems. • Awareness of health and safety, quality assurance and design change control processes. Typical Duties and Working Relationships: On a day-to-day basis, the Structural Steel Design Co-ordinator may attend design meetings, review drawing packages, track outstanding technical queries, co-ordinate model updates, liaise with fabrication teams on practical requirements and support site teams with design clarifications. The role typically works closely with structural engineers, architects, BIM technicians, project managers, quantity surveyors, production teams and erection crews to ensure the steel package is delivered safely, accurately and on time.

The Senior Structural Steel Detailer is responsible for producing accurate 3D models, general arrangement drawings, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, single part drawings and erection information for structural steelwork projects using Tekla Structures. The role involves interpreting structural and architectural design information, coordinating with engineers, project managers, workshop teams and site personnel, and ensuring all detailing work is practical, buildable and compliant with relevant project specifications and UK steelwork standards. The Senior Structural Steel Detailer is expected to have a strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection processes, connection detailing, material scheduling and drawing issue control. The role also includes identifying and resolving detailing clashes, supporting technical queries, and helping to ensure projects are delivered accurately and on programme. In addition, the role includes team management responsibilities, such as coordinating and overseeing junior detailers and drawing office staff, allocating workload, reviewing drawing output, maintaining quality standards, and supporting the efficient delivery of multiple projects within programme deadlines. Typical Responsibilities • Produce detailed 3D steel models in Tekla Structures • Prepare GA drawings, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, single part drawings and erection drawings • Generate NC data, material lists and bills of materials • Review engineering and architectural information for accuracy and buildability • Coordinate with internal teams, clients, engineers and workshop personnel • Resolve technical detailing issues and clashes • Maintain revision control and drawing registers • Ensure compliance with relevant standards, specifications and fabrication requirements • Support workshop and site teams with technical drawing queries • Check drawings prepared by others for accuracy, completeness and compliance • Mentor and support junior detailers • Assist with planning, prioritising and allocating detailing workload across the team • Monitor team output to help ensure quality, consistency and programme delivery • Contribute to drawing office procedures, standards and continuous improvement Key Requirements • Minimum 5 years experience in structural steel detailing • High level of proficiency in Tekla Structures • Good knowledge of steel fabrication and erection practice • Ability to interpret engineering and construction drawings • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills • Good communication and coordination ability • Familiarity with UK structural steelwork standards and industry practice • Ability to supervise, support and coordinate other team members within a drawing office environment • Experience checking drawings and maintaining quality standards • Good leadership and workload management skills
