We are now looking for two assistant editors, features (one permanent, two-days per week and one 7-month fixed term contract or staff secondment, five-days per week) to support the executive editor, features, and their deputies in editing all online features. Guardian features cover a wide range of topics including interviews with everyone from actors to activists; pieces on lifestyle such as food, fashion and relationships; and getting behind the story on wider issues. You will be working with top writers and columnists. About the role: Edit features content from commission to publication Act as deputy on the features section when the Executive editor, features, or their deputies, are away Originate feature, opinion, interactive and multimedia ideas in print and online Help commission staff and freelancers Establish good working relationships with colleagues and external contacts Represent the features section when required Edit copy to an extremely high standard Liaise with other desks - pictures/ design/ production/ multimedia Engage with readers in an imaginative way About you: Experience working in a busy newsroom for a newspaper, magazine or website Proven track record of editing and commissioning An understanding of the issues and stories that might connect with the Guardian's readership Experience and understanding of editing for web platforms Knowledge and appreciation of Guardian style Experience of working with long form journalism Ideally you will have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to the role. Working within a high-performing team producing film and animation content for some of the UK's leading brands, you will be a pivotal point of support - keeping productions running smoothly from pre-production through to wrap. This is a fully office-based role The Role You will work closely with producers, production managers, camera operators, animators and editors, helping to plan, schedule and deliver productions at pace. From setting up the production office and managing crew logistics, to tracking budgets and co-ordinating post-production workflow -no two days will be the same.
