The Role The purpose of this role is to lead and carry out detailed structural design and checking of temporary works and permanent works for civil engineering projects, while providing technical support and design assistance to operational teams. Key Responsibilities Technical Design Lead, prepare and oversee detailed technical designs, including calculations, drawings, risk assessments and design certificates. Undertake preliminary designs and coordinate with internal and external parties. Obtain independent checks and third-party technical approvals where required. Ensure design outputs meet CDM requirements, health and safety standards and environmental compliance. Technical Support Provide technical information and engineering advice. Develop value-engineered alternative solutions during both design and construction phases. Review method statements for complex or unusual construction methodologies. Review defects and compensation events and advise on suitable engineering solutions. Administrative Support Assist with the approval of external suppliers. Support the development and maintenance of technical design procedures, standards and processes. Obtain or provide pricing information for estimating purposes. General Responsibilities Liaise with clients, customers, suppliers and third parties as required. Promote engineering best practice across the business. Support the promotion of the company and its capabilities to customers. About You Essential Previous experience within the structural engineering field. Experience in the detailed design of structures, including temporary and/or permanent works. Experience using frame analysis software, structural design software and CAD software. Ability to undertake calculations manually and using software such as MathCAD. Working knowledge of Eurocodes, BS 5975 and other relevant structural design standards. Experience carrying out structural calculations, analysis and developing or following structural methodologies. Degree, or equivalent qualification, in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering. Thorough understanding of structural engineering principles. Knowledge of construction processes and methodologies. Ability to ensure designs meet performance, safety, quality and cost requirements. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders. Ability to identify structural suitability and critical load cases. Able to work independently while supporting and mentoring others. Desirable A combination of site-based and design office experience. Incorporated or Chartered membership with a relevant professional institution, or currently working towards accreditation. CSCS Card.
