Ideally you would have come from a test or lab background within mechanics or electronics and have a genuine interest in product testing, compliance and regulations. Create and maintain test procedures, protocols, and work instructions. Execute laboratory testing for components, assemblies, and finished products. Support New Product Introduction (NPI) projects through verification and validation activities. Collect, analyse, and interpret test data using appropriate statistical and engineering methods. Produce clear technical reports with conclusions and recommendations. Support root cause investigations and failure analysis activities. Assist in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Design of Experiments (DOE), and Design for Reliability (DfR) activities. Ensure all testing activities comply with health, safety, and laboratory procedures. Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instrumentation. Schematics: Ability to read and interpret electronic design schematics, as well as hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical drawings. Safety: A strong commitment to health and safety standards and regulations. Desirable (But Not Essential):Multi-skilled in both Electrical and Electronics disciplines. Prior experience working within an engine test cell environment. Experience with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) techniques. BS7671 IET 18th Edition Electrical Regulations. HNC or equivalent in an electronic/electrical discipline. An aerospace or military/ex-forces background (highly valued for its focus on precision and quality standards). ASL Technical are recruiting on behalf of a leading global automotive manufacturer, seeking an experienced vehicle mechanic with experience of modern car electrics, electronics and diagnostic tools to work on the development of future Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) as a Test and Development Technician to join their UK engineering team. This exciting role involves hands-on vehicle preparation, instrumentation, testing, and validation of cutting-edge driver assistance and diagnostic systems. Key Responsibilities Prepare, build, maintain, and instrument vehicles in line with engineering standards and procedures. Carry out testing in dynamic driving conditions to capture accurate and reliable data. Support evaluation and issue identification in close collaboration with Test Engineers. Set up instrumentation including cameras, radar, and ADAS logging systems. Acquire and analyse data, compiling reports to support engineering teams. Assist with harness fabrication/repair and interpret technical drawings. Work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver projects on time and to high quality. Skills & Experience Required Strong knowledge of vehicle assembly, disassembly, and maintenance techniques. Minimum of 3 years driving experience with a full UK licence (LHD/European driving experience and additional driving qualifications advantageous). Familiarity with vehicle CAN bus systems and fault-finding. Experience with Vector CAN tools desirable but not essential. Knowledge fo vehicle electric harnesses for problem diagnostics and repairs. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel/PowerPoint). Strong organisational skills, able to work independently and to deadlines. Flexible and willing to travel at short notice for up to two weeks (with travel commitments expected to increase). Key Deliverables High-quality preparation, instrumentation, and maintenance of vehicles in line with Nissan Engineering Manuals and local processes.
