The business is known for its strong technical capability, collaborative culture and commitment to safe, high-quality delivery. With a growing portfolio of complex design-led projects, they are seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager to oversee third-party design partners and ensure robust design governance throughout the project lifecycle. Your new role As Senior Design Manager, you will take ownership of the full design management process, acting as the key interface between the client, end-customers and external design teams. You will lead design reviews, manage technical queries, coordinate multidisciplinary inputs and ensure all design deliverables meet contractual, regulatory and programme requirements.Your responsibilities will include: Overseeing and managing third-party design consultants across substation, overhead line and underground cable scopes. Leading design review meetings, ensuring clarity of requirements and resolving design issues promptly. Managing the design process from concept through to construction-ready deliverables. Acting as the primary point of contact for the client and customer teams, ensuring expectations are aligned and communication is clear. Supporting contract administration activities, including reviewing design-related obligations and ensuring compliance. Chairing internal and external meetings, producing minutes, actions and follow-up documentation. Ensuring designs are coordinated, buildable and aligned with project constraints and safety requirements. Providing commercial awareness across the design process, identifying risks, changes and opportunities. Working closely with project managers, engineers and commercial teams to maintain programme and quality standards. Operating in a flexible hybrid model, with three days per week, based in the Warrington office. What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this role, you will need: Proven experience as a Senior Design Manager or Design Lead within utilities, power, substations, OHL or underground cable projects. Strong capability in managing external design teams and driving performance. Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with clients, customers and multidisciplinary teams. A solid understanding of design governance, design assurance and contract administration. Experience chairing meetings, leading design reviews and managing technical documentation. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple design packages concurrently. A proactive, solutions-focused approach with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. This Principal Electrical Engineer/Technical Director post will see you joining the Leeds office of one of the water industries favoured consultants. They are close partners with water authorities and other bodies such as the Environment Agency and Flood Authorities, putting them in the position of being able to offer you a wider variety than a constant stream of AMP 8 duties. Within this role you will bring your HV, LV and controls expertise in water, battery storage or similar industries to table, ready to support less experienced engineers and lead on schemes. It's an exciting opportunity to push the current office lead up the ladder, while being supported to take their role. Working alongside the wider Civil and Electrical Design team, the role of the Primary Electrical Design Engineer will see you producing electrical layouts for substations (including AIS / GIS up to 400kV), cable route layout drawings & sections, LV layouts, switch room and control room equipment layouts and site earthing layouts etc. You'll be client facing, mentoring, and keen to innovate. You'll also need to have a sound understanding of typical engineering documents such as, but not limited to, ENATS 41-24, NGTS RES i3, NGTS 3.02.014 RES, NGTS 2.01 RES, NGTS 1, NGTS 3.01.02, BS 50522, BS7430 and a demonstrable working understanding of G81 standards and DNO's approved equipment registers. It is crucial that you are Chartered, or actively working towards it, and able to demonstrate previous experience of primary electrical design with a consultancy, contractor or utility in the Power industry. This will need to include producing electrical layout drawings for substations, switchrooms, control rooms and balance of plant projects that may be privately owned or have elements adopted under G81 by the host DNO including: 11kV distribution networks 22kV distribution networks 33kV switchrooms and control rooms 66kV AIS substations 132kV AIS substations You'll be joining one of the most passionate teams in Leeds that I have had the pleasure to work with, enjoying a diverse range of schemes and have a clear route to senior management.
