Key Responsibilities Carry out routine grounds maintenance across parks and open spaces. Cut grass, trim hedges, prune shrubs, weed flower beds, and assist with planting. Operate grounds maintenance equipment such as mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, and leaf blowers. Collect litter, empty bins, and maintain high standards of cleanliness. Inspect parks for hazards, vandalism, or maintenance issues and report concerns promptly. Undertake minor repairs to park furniture, fencing, signage, and other park infrastructure. Assist with the maintenance of sports facilities, lawns, specimen trees, and conservation areas. Assist with seasonal maintenance activities, including leaf clearance and winter preparations. Support the setup and clear-down of community events held within parks. Follow health and safety procedures and ensure equipment is used safely. Engage professionally and courteously with members of the public. Experience Desired Previous experience as a Gardener, Park Keeper, Grounds Maintenance Operative, Landscaper , or in a similar outdoor maintenance role. Experience using grounds maintenance machinery and equipment. Experience working outdoors in all weather conditions. Knowledge of maintaining public spaces, gardens, parks, sports pitches, or recreational grounds. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Skills and Attributes Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic. Good attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards. Strong communication and customer service skills. Physically fit and capable of carrying out manual outdoor work. Ability to identify maintenance issues and take appropriate action. Commitment to maintaining safe, clean, and attractive public spaces. Drive any vehicle relevant to the grade, which may include Ford Iveco type 5 tonne Crew Cab vehicles, towing, small van, ride-on mowers and any other industry specific vehicles in line with the post holder's driving licence and training. e.g. "grandfather rights" may be used where deemed necessary and appropriate. Clean and valid driving license is required for this role. Ideal candidate will have past Grounds-maintenance/ Landscaping experience. This role is a subject to a BASIC DBS Check. Dudley Council is looking for Grounds Maintenance/ Gardening Operatives to join their team on temporary ongoing basis. Hours of work: 7am to 3:30pm Monday to Thursday 7am to 2:30 pm Friday This is an ongoing agency role for a period of 3 months, with possible extension depending on needs of the Council. Role requires the candidate to commence with any Landscaping/ Grounds maintenance duties including but not limiting to: Digging, forking, hoeing, weeding, mulching, grass edging, pruning shrubs & roses, other duties in line with the requirements of the Environmental Protection Act. Setting out, initial & over marking of sports pitches, running tracks, field events, rounders, javelin, shot, discus, tennis etc including hard surface line markings using specialist equipment and the erection and dismantling of sports equipment and the maintenance of synthetic sports surfaces. Including any other associated painting tasks in this regard.
