WHEEL LATHE FITTER DONCASTER UP TO 37,200 (INCLUDING SHIT ALLOWANCE) An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Wheel Lathe Fitter to join our team at our Longport depot. Do you enjoy working hands on? Are you willing to get stuck in and help others to get the job done? Do you take pride in finishing work to a high standard and delivering excellent customer satisfaction? Maintain locomotive fleet by carrying out fitter related tasks. Operate a wheel Lathe to re-profile Rail Wheelsets either on Rail Vehicles or Loose Axles. To carry out Post Tyre Turning work on vehicles following tyre turning. All employees, in accordance with the Company's Quality, Health and Safety and Environmental (QHSE) Policy, have an individual responsibility and duty to adhere to the responsibilities laid out in the attached Safety, Responsibility Statement, and Document No. SP18 AS A WHEEL LATHE FITTER YOU JOB DUTIES WILL BE: Competently operate the underfloor wheel lathe Identify all types of wheel damage and turn damage/wear out of wheels. Ensures all work is carried out to Railway Group Standards. Carry out maintenance of locomotive fleet with zero defects To contribute positively to continuous improvement activities within the Directorate. On time completion of tasks Proactive and effective support of team members in service delivery Maintain a safe, tidy and clean work area To contribute to the quality improvement of the directorate To build productive and effective working relationships with Company staff Adhere to and comply with the Company's Quality, Health and Safety and Environmental Policies at all times. To participate in the Company appraisal process maintaining at all times the levels of professional competency laid out in this Job Description THE IDEAL WHEEL LATHE FITTER WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE: Knowledge / experience of CNC or machinist equipment Previous diesel engine or rail vehicle fitting experience An Engineering qualification - B-TEC, NVQ, ONC, Engineering Apprenticeship or comparable Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures Effective communication skills Ability to identify whether self, others or the organisation are achieving their objectives and also any variances there may be in terms of goals and timescales. Ensure that corrective action plans are formulated and implemented. Consider problems as a challenge, collect information relevant to the problem, be disciplined in ascertaining the root cause, identify and develop a practical solution, communicate the findings and implement action to resolve the problem. Search out errors, rectify omissions, perfect systems and procedures which will ultimately raise the quality and standards of all tasks undertaken. Develop and comply with the systems, procedures, rules, objectives and timescales set by the organization and take a disciplined approach when undertaking tasks. Communicate effectively and through example and expertise create a participative and involved atmosphere. Encourage a high level of performance in self and others. Be alert to changing situations, show flexibility in approach, adaptability in difficult circumstances and continuously strive to achieve a result. Be non-confrontational when handling or involved in conflict situations and in order to achieve agreed and acceptable standards and timescales adopt a passive and non-demanding working ethic. JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Loco Fitter Business: Rolling Stock Maintenance Location: Leeds Safety Critical: Yes Reports To: Engineering Depot Supervisor Purpose of Job Carry out servicing, maintenance and fault finding of Locomotives, components and equipment to ensure the production of safe, reliable locomotives in line with company availability and reliability requirements. Dimensions of the Job Financial No direct financial authority but has vital influence on company expenditure through the effective maintenance of traction and rolling stock. Staff responsibilities None Physical Principal Safety Accountabilities Mainline Locomotives Ensure that company engineering standards and procedures are applied and followed, under the post holder's area of control to ensure that the traction and rolling stock meet the provisions of statutory Railway Group Standards and Codes of Practice. The post holder has a general duty to ensure that there is no harm to employees. Contractors, customers or the public. Principal Accountabilities Adhere to health and safety and local safety policy requirements, and other safety and technical standards. Comply with all instructions, rules and regulations in force. Maintain, service, fault find and repair locomotives in accordance with the approved maintenance plans as required by the local manager. Ensure all relevant paperwork for examinations and repairs is correctly completed on time and to required company standards. Ensure that materials issued to locomotives and wagons are recorded and reported accurately. Take due care and attention to all tools and instrumentation used. Participate in all relevant training and competency assessment that the post holder is nominated for. Repair and commission all plant and equipment as required from time to time. Assist in the upkeep of maintenance vehicle history files either electronically or hard copies. Assist Team Leaders (under their direction) as required during maintenance and repair of Locomotives. Attend safety/quality and technical briefings as required. Be prepared to work in the areas of necessity to alleviate pressure, under the guidance of suitably qualified staff. Undertake general duties relative to cleanliness of workshop areas, mess room, toilets etc. as required. Assist as required by your immediate line manager. Experience & Knowledge Requirements: At least 3 years broadly based experience of motor vehicle/HGV/Agricultural and Military vehicles plus/or ideally, Traction & Rolling Stock, including maintenance, repair and fault finding. The ability to make sound engineering decisions. Basic communication skills, written & oral. Qualifications and Training A minimum of NVQ Level 3/or equivalent in an engineering or technical discipline Successful candidates will be required to undertake a Safety Critical Rail related Medical and Drug & Alcohol check plus a basic Security clearance check. A pass in both are requited before any offer of employment is finalised
