SRT Marine Systems plc (SRT) is a market leader in the domain of international marine surveillance technology and systems. We are a respected, established, and an ambitious multi-national company headquartered in the UK with a global customer base. The company has a worldwide impact in the marine sector by leading the next generation of maritime domain awareness technologies "MDA", products, and systems that significantly enhance security, safety, environmental protection, and sustainability. Our customers are global and range from the largest national coast guards to individual vessel owners. We are now entering a new and strategically significant phase of growth, characterised by the expansion of our systems to incorporate Land Border Surveillance Systems. Our new Sovereign Territory Surveillance (STS) Systems will play a crucial role in enhancing civil defence security through the deployment of advanced automated security infrastructures. Utilised by nations worldwide, these technologies facilitate the monitoring of sovereign land borders, thereby strengthening border integrity and national security. About the role of Senior Elixir Engineer (Sovereign Territory Surveillance) We're investing in Elixir as the foundation for the next generation of SRT's web technology platform. You'll be joining at a point where you'll have genuine influence over how that platform evolves. We're not looking for someone to simply write features, we want engineers who enjoy making systems better. If you spot a better architecture, a cleaner deployment model, or a more elegant OTP solution, we want you to make the case. You'll have the freedom to experiment, prototype and influence where the platform goes next. We care far more about solving interesting engineering problems than chasing frameworks or buzzwords. Elixir just happens to be an excellent tool for the kinds of distributed, fault-tolerant systems we're building. You as a Senior Elixir Engineer will work alongside experienced engineers who enjoy discussing architecture, refining systems and occasionally disappearing down an OTP rabbit hole because there has to be a better way. If that sounds familiar, you'll probably feel at home here. We're looking for a Senior Elixir Engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical problems and wants to build software with real-world impact. This isn't another CRUD SaaS platform. The software you build will help coast guards, maritime authorities and governments understand what's happening across some of the world's busiest waterways. You'll be working on distributed, event-driven systems that ingest, process and visualise live data from thousands of assets across the globe. One day you'll be designing resilient OTP services processing streaming telemetry, the next you'll be building highly interactive LiveView applications or helping shape the architecture behind the next generation of our platform. If words like GenServer, PubSub, supervision trees and distributed systems genuinely make you smile, you'll probably enjoy working here. You'll be responsible for building stable, secure and scalable platforms that power SRT's next generation of web technologies. We looking for someone who enjoys understanding systems, not just writing features. Please note - the role of Senior Elixir Engineer is a hybrid role, working both in our Bristol office and WFH. What you'll do in the role of Senior Elixir Engineer You'll be joining a small team of experienced engineers with significant influence over architecture and technical direction. Our technology stack includes: Elixir / OTP Phoenix & LiveView PostgreSQL / PostGIS Event-driven architectures MapLibre and geospatial visualisation Real-time telemetry and data processing Containerised services deployed across cloud and customer-managed infrastructure Depending on the project, you might be: Building scalable APIs Processing live maritime telemetry Developing rich LiveView interfaces Working with large geospatial datasets Designing fault-tolerant distributed services Helping shape technical strategy across the platform Improving deployment, observability and developer tooling You'll ideally have experience with: Elixir and OTP Phoenix and LiveView Designing distributed systems Building APIs and backend services Distributed relational and/or OLAP databases Containerised applications and modern deployment practices Cloud and on-premises platforms Designing maintainable software that evolves over time Performance profiling Experience with geospatial systems, MapLibre or PostGIS would be highly advantageous, but isn't essential. Benefits Package Excellent salary and package Private health care Career Development opportunities SRT Marine Systems plc are an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to creating an inclusive working environment for all employees and actively encourage applications from all sectors of the community.

Assurance Engineer The Role: We are looking for a Senior or Principal Assurance Engineer to join the technology team at Synoptix. The technology team specialises in applying AI to solve challenges within complex systems, with expertise spanning object detection, neural network resilience, AI assurance, and the development of synthetic data. Through bespoke research and development programmes the team delivers high-grade AI systems and services for high-stakes environments. This role is about helping our customers design, justify and operate AI. You will produce defensible technical outputs, challenge weak assumptions and connect assurance evidence to real decisions about system design, deployment and operation. You will lead technically demanding client work, either working hands-on yourself or directing a project team. This is not primarily a governance, risk and compliance role. Nor are we looking for someone who treats compliance with standards as the end goal. Established standards and techniques will often guide the work. However, you must understand their purpose, limitations, and relevance to the system under consideration, particularly when working in situations where standards, processes, or accepted approaches have not yet been defined. Direct experience of AI assurance is desirable but not essential. We are looking for a broad range of assurance backgrounds, not just people who already work in AI assurance. You should have some exposure to AI or machine-learning systems or be able to demonstrate that you can learn unfamiliar technologies quickly and engage credibly with specialists. Key Experience: We are primarily interested in demonstrated experience, technical judgement and the quality of your thinking. You should have strong experience in at least one area relevant to the assurance or design of high-stakes systems. This might include: Safety engineering and safety cases Assurance cases and argument-based assurance High-integrity or safety-critical software AI verification, validation, testing or evaluation System safety and hazard analysis Software or system architecture Human factors and human-machine teaming Cybersecurity and resilience Quantitative risk, reliability or formal methods Operational monitoring and change assurance Clinical safety or healthcare technology assurance Another professional field involving difficult technical decisions with significant consequences We welcome candidates from a wide range of sectors including but not limited to defence, space, healthcare, nuclear or critical national infrastructure, but it is not essential. We also welcome transferable experience from aviation, automotive, rail, industrial automation and other high-integrity sectors. Day-to-Day tasking can include: Leading the technical delivery of assurance work for clients Developing assurance strategies and plans Structuring claims, arguments and supporting evidence Developing AI test and evaluation strategies Defining system requirements and design recommendations Developing operational monitoring and change-assurance approaches Reviewing and challenging evidence produced by clients or suppliers Producing reports that support senior technical and operational decisions Working with clients as a technical stakeholder Sharing and defending a proposed technical approach Leading technical discussions and contributing to workshops Challenging client or supplier assumptions constructively Building relationships while maintaining an independent technical position Supporting and developing the wider team, including both mentoring and supporting more junior engineers Develop partnerships with universities, research organisations, and industry collaborators to advance R&D opportunities and drive innovation Benefits: Annual Company Bonus Based on company performance 25 Days holiday not including bank holidays with the option to buy/sell up to 5 days Flexible hybrid working arrangements Continuous professional development including incentives Access to online Udemy training facility to support grade specific learning pathways Electric car scheme Bike to work scheme Private health care About Us: Synoptix was formed in 2011 to provide engineering solutions across various technical industries. We have evolved from a company established and focussed on Systems Thinking principles into an Engineering company providing solutions and services across three key capabilities: Systems, Cyber & InfoSec and Technology. What makes us stand out is how we engage in the crossover areas between these disciplines, combining our strengths to provide a truly bespoke, market leading approach. Our engineering competence is bolstered by expertise in commercial, legal, financial and resource, thereby ensuring that we uphold excellence in our product and service offerings. Please note that due to the nature of our projects we can only accept Sole UK National candidates who will need to be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance. By applying to this position, you are confirming that you consent to the retention of your personal data. Join Our Client as a Databricks SME - Strategic Technology Leadership Opportunity A growing business is investing further in its data platform - but this one's a little different. Rather than building from scratch, they need a genuine Databricks SME to come in and optimise an existing platform: improving performance, cost efficiency, governance, and architecture as part of a wider greenfield initiative. This is a high-impact contract for someone who knows Databricks inside out and wants to make an immediate, visible difference - not just maintain what's already there. You'll work closely with stakeholders, reviewing the current setup, identifying where it's falling short, and re-architecting where needed - all while the business scales. Essential Skills & Experience Proven experience as a Databricks SME, with hands-on expertise in implementing and managing Databricks platforms. Strong understanding of data architecture, data pipelines, and AI/data foundations. Familiarity with Atlassian tools and their integration within complex data environments. Excellent communication skills, capable of guiding teams through technical discovery and strategic planning. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, innovative environment. Prior experience in the retail industry or similar sectors is advantageous. Tech: Databricks (Unity Catalog, cluster & job optimisation) Delta Lake/Lakehouse architecture Python/PySpark SQL Cloud provider - AWS/Azure CI/CD, Terraform, orchestration tool if relevant Bonus points for: cost governance frameworks, data quality/observability tooling, or experience taking a platform from "it works" to "it scales." If you've ever looked at a Databricks environment and thought "I know exactly how I'd fix this," this is that project.
