The Opportunity An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior AI Engineer to join a growing AI and Data Science function within a leading global organisation. This team is responsible for developing innovative AI, Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing (NLP) solutions that power intelligent products used by customers around the world. Working within a collaborative, cross-functional engineering environment, you'll play a key role in designing scalable AI platforms, productionising machine learning models and building cloud-native services that deliver real business value. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges while mentoring others and influencing engineering best practices. The Role Reporting to the AI Engineering Manager, you'll take ownership of the architecture, design and delivery of complex AI services and data pipelines. Working closely with Data Scientists and Software Engineers, you'll help transform research and machine learning models into reliable, scalable production systems. You'll have the autonomy to make key technical decisions while helping define engineering standards across the wider team. Key Responsibilities Design, build and maintain scalable AI data pipelines and processing workflows. Develop cloud-native backend systems and scalable microservices. Partner closely with Data Scientists to productionise Machine Learning, NLP and Generative AI models. Build and optimise RESTful APIs for AI model serving. Monitor system reliability, model performance and observability across production environments. Drive best practices across CI/CD, automated testing, Infrastructure as Code and MLOps. Improve system integration and interoperability across enterprise platforms. Support internal and external consumers of AI services and APIs. Translate evolving business requirements into scalable engineering solutions. Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership within the team. Contribute to architectural decisions and influence engineering standards. Skills & Experience We're looking for someone with a strong software engineering background and commercial experience building AI-powered systems. You'll ideally have: Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence or a related discipline. 5+ years' commercial experience in Backend Engineering, Data Engineering or Machine Learning Engineering. Expert-level Python development skills. Commercial experience with Machine Learning, NLP or AI platforms. Experience productionising machine learning models at scale. Strong experience designing RESTful APIs and microservices using frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask or Django. Experience working with SQL and relational databases, including performance optimisation. Experience designing cloud-native solutions within AWS and/or Azure. Strong understanding of distributed systems and scalable architectures. Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and containerised deployments. Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and Infrastructure as Code. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. A passion for mentoring and developing other engineers.
