Description As the Quality Inspector you will be tasked with the following - Carry out inspection activities on materials, components, fabricated items, welded assemblies, machined parts, and finished products in line with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and inspection requirements. Conduct site-wide inspection duties where required, supporting quality needs across different departments and operational areas within iCAM Engineering. Complete goods-in inspection checks to confirm that supplied materials, products, and components meet purchase order requirements, certification requirements, and expected quality standards. Undertake in-process inspections during manufacturing, fabrication, welding, machining, and assembly activities to ensure work is completed correctly and defects are identified at the earliest opportunity. Carry out final inspection checks prior to product release, dispatch, or customer delivery to confirm conformity with specification and quality requirements. Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, weld symbols, inspection criteria, and quality documentation. Use appropriate inspection and measuring equipment such as callipers, micrometres, gauges, tape measures, squares, levels, and other calibrated equipment as required. Ensure that all inspection equipment used is suitable, calibrated, in good condition, and correctly controlled in accordance with company procedures. Accurately complete inspection records, check sheets, reports, non-conformance records, and any other quality documentation required by the Quality Management System. Identify, report, and record non-conforming products, materials, processes, or workmanship in line with company non-conformance procedures. Support the Quality Manager and Quality Technician with investigations into quality issues, customer complaints, internal rejects, supplier defects, and process failures. Assist with root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions to reduce repeat defects and improve quality performance. Liaise with production teams, supervisors, welders, fabricators, machinists, and other employees to communicate inspection findings and support the resolution of quality concerns. Support the control, identification, segregation, and disposition of non-conforming products to prevent unintended use or release. Ensure that products are inspected and released only when they meet the required specification, acceptance criteria, and customer requirements. Assist with maintaining traceability of materials, components, inspection records, certification, and product identification where required. Support continuous improvement activities across the business by identifying opportunities to improve inspection methods, quality controls, and production processes. Follow company procedures, quality plans, inspection test plans, standard operating procedures, and work instructions relevant to the role. Support internal audits, external audits, customer audits, and UKAS ISO 9001:2015 activities where required. Promote a positive quality culture by encouraging right-first-time working, attention to detail, and ownership of quality standards across the site. Main Duties and Responsibilities Always work safely, ensuring compliance with Company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, legislation and regulations. Maintain a safe and efficient working area in accordance with the 5S requirements. Plan and prepare welding activities identifying and reporting any Health & Safety hazards prior to the commencement of work. Weld various joint configurations in various positions to BS EN ISO 10042, follow work instructions, in Welding Procedure Specification WPS, sequence, completing tasks and procedural tests satisfying production schedules to the required quality level and within the specified timescale. Ensure safe handling of aluminium, weld seam and dimensional accuracy meets the drawing and welding specifications. Ensure through visual / non-destructive inspection that the welded finished component conforms to the drawing and requirements. Perform crane operation and lifting tasks in accordance with safe working practices and instructions. Remove material using manual powered and non-powered hand tools, before and during welding to remove defects within the preparation and weld deposit. Remove and dress bracings, strong backs, run-on/run-off tabs and alignment aids, and dress finished external weld surfaces using manual powered and non powered hand tools. Restore the work area and equipment to a safe and reliable condition on completion of welding including the remediation and recycling of bracings, strong backs and alignment aids. Monitor the use of consumables and adjust quantities issued, and return unused consumables for re-conditioning, re use or disposal. Complete production documentation and reporting at the appropriate stages of the work activity booking of hours on a MRP (Materials Requirements Planning) system, SAP. Comply with any qualification and certification tests as required. Additional Duties and Responsibilities Identify areas for improving the production process where possible through the monitoring of performance. Report via approved maintenance reporting procedures any equipment fault or unusual occurrence. Support logistic requirements to complete the movement, delivery, and inspection of parts and consumables as required. You may be required to undertake work at other facilities within a reasonable distance as required. Adhere to the Company s code of conduct, policies and procedures and undertake training as required. Qualifications/Education Essential Recognised time-served City and Guilds/NVQ level 3 Apprenticeship in welding. Coded to BS EN ISO standards. Knowledge/Experience A minimum of 12 months welding / fabrication experience working autonomously fabricating welded aluminium assemblies in a heavy manufacturing or fabrication environment within a recognised Company that complies to, BS EN 1090-1, BS EN ISO 3834-1.BS EN ISO 9001 and Quality Management System (WQMS, Quality Assurance/Quality Control). Good understanding of welding plant operation, the various types and welding consumables. Experience in the use of primarily MIG (MAG and TIG desirable) welding systems including working with aluminium and special applications/requirements to achieve quality to BS EN ISO 10042, Quality levels for imperfections. Demonstrable understanding of welding / fabrication of complex assemblies including the equipment and materials used, their behaviour during the welding processes in relation to the structure of materials, resultant properties and stress aspects. Demonstrable ability to read, understand and translate specifications, BS EN ISO 10042, technical drawings, work instructions and WPS/NDT Methods. Demonstrable understanding of, and identification of welding defects. Demonstrable understanding of Quality, Safety and Environmental systems and processes Desirable Experience with non-destructive testing techniques including mechanical and visual inspection techniques, dye penetration, magnetic particle and radiographic testing. Experience in working in the fabrication of military or similar heavy high integrity welded products. Able to remove material using manual powered and non-powered hand tools, before and during welding to remove defects within the preparation and weld deposit.
