Supplier relationship and performance management • Own day-to-day commercial relationships with freelance surveyors, assessors and relevant agencies, ensuring expectations, rates, availability and service requirements are understood. • Monitor supplier performance using project, scheduling and QA data, including reliability, productivity, quality, no-access behaviour, communication and cost. • Hold performance conversations where required and agree improvement actions, increased monitoring, restricted allocation or removal from the active panel where appropriate. • Work with the Technical & Quality Manager so that technical QA findings and competence information directly inform supplier-performance and allocation decisions. 4. Commercial and deployment efficiency • Manage supplier rates and commercial terms within agreed parameters, escalating material exceptions for approval. • Reduce avoidable travel, agency dependency and inefficient deployment by balancing geography, availability, competence, productivity and cost. • Set allocation principles and capacity priorities for the Operations Scheduler and Project Managers; the Scheduler remains responsible for day-to-day appointment execution. • Identify and quantify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality or delivery resilience. 5. Risk, reporting and improvement • Maintain contingency plans for regional shortages, specialist competence gaps, supplier failure and peak-demand periods. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially strong Quantity Surveyor to work across a portfolio of essential infrastructure projects focused on improving the resilience, performance and sustainability of the UK's water network. You will take responsibility for the commercial management of projects from valuation and change management through to subcontractor administration, forecasting and final account, working closely with operational and project delivery teams. You'll be managing a busy portfolio of live projects, coordinating Surveyors, Site Foremen, trades and subcontractors while keeping a close eye on timescales, costs, quality and customer expectations. No two days will be quite the same, you could be resolving an issue on site, reviewing costs and variations, coordinating materials or making sure the next phase of a project is ready to go. We're looking for a Senior Project Surveyor to join our Durham County Council NETPark team based in Sedgefield / Hebburn. Location: Sedgefield / Hebburn Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us. Join us on an exciting major scheme for Durham County Council, delivering the third phase of a significant expansion at one of the UK's premier science, engineering, and technology parks. The £61m North East Technology Park (NETPark) will create up to 232,000 square feet of flexible laboratory, office, production and storage space. As Senior Project Surveyor, you'll work alongside the commercial lead, managing a large supply chain and ensuring excellent commercial outcomes are achieved throughout delivery to completion. What will you be responsible for? As a Senior Project Surveyor, you'll be working within the commercial team, supporting them in managing cost, risk and value for money across this major project. Your day to day will include: Managing applications for payment from sub-contractors and preparing client applications Negotiating with the supply chain to achieve best value and awarding work packages Monitoring actual expenditure against budgets through Cost Value Reconciliation Reports Ensuring all variations are properly costed and logged in line with contract conditions Mentoring and supporting more junior commercial staff What are we looking for?
