Key Responsibilities Respond quickly and effectively to plant breakdowns, faults and quality issues Carry out planned preventative maintenance in line with the agreed schedule Complete both planned and reactive maintenance records using the CMMS Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults to minimise production downtime Monitor plant and equipment condition to identify and prevent potential failures Ensure all machinery, facilities and utilities are maintained in a safe condition Support the achievement of food safety and quality standards Complete preventative maintenance tasks on time and within agreed costs Support internal hygiene audits and contribute to continuous improvement Work with the Engineering Manager and wider team on engineering and improvement projects Identify opportunities to improve equipment productivity, efficiency and energy usage Maintain high standards of housekeeping within the engineering workshop Ensure site facilities and utilities remain electrically and mechanically safe Manage contractors and follow Permit to Work procedures where required Ensure compliance with IFS and Organic Certification standards Follow all food safety, quality and health & safety procedures Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams to support operational requirements Undertake any other reasonable duties required by the business What We're Looking For Time-served apprenticeship and/or NVQ Level 3 in Engineering Maintenance Minimum 2 years' engineering experience within a production or manufacturing environment Multi-skilled engineering experience Strong mechanical maintenance and fabrication skills Experience of both planned and reactive maintenance Experience using planned maintenance systems/CMMS Good health & safety knowledge; IOSH qualification desirable Strong problem-solving skills with a logical and structured approach Experience within a high-volume manufacturing environment Knowledge or experience of Continuous Improvement or Lean methodologies Strong communication and teamwork skills Ability to work effectively with colleagues across Engineering and Production Proactive, reliable and able to take personal responsibility Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond to breakdowns quickly Desirable Experience Experience within FMCG or food manufacturing Knowledge of IFS and food safety standards Experience working with production and packing equipment Knowledge of food manufacturing operations Experience working within a shift-based production environment Experience of continuous improvement initiatives Working Environment This is a fast-paced food manufacturing environment where engineering reliability, food safety and quality are essential. You will work a 4, 5, 5 rolling shift pattern , covering both day and night shifts: Day shift: 07:00-19:00 Night shift: 19:00-07:00 Appropriate PPE will be provided, including food-grade coats, mop caps, beard snoods where required, hi-vis clothing in warehouse areas, safety footwear and eye protection.
