Creation and maintenance of a complete set of design documentation, including requirements document, software design document, software programming instructions, validation and verification documentation, etc). Provide technical support to the Manufacturing, Quality, Repairs and Customer Services functions. Evaluation of new technologies relevant to product development and generally keeping up to date with developments in technology and regulations. Working together with electronics hardware engineers to deliver complete electronics solutions for products. Skills, Knowledge & Competencies : Experience designing embedded software for high volume commercial products. Selection of appropriate microcontroller and generation of pin assignments based on product functional requirements, optimising for cost, performance, and efficient resource utilisation. Bare metal & RTOS microcontroller software development in C. Detailed understanding of microcontroller peripherals down to register level and have experience writing low-level drivers for SPI / I2C / UART / ADC / PWM /etc. Have a strong understanding of embedded system architecture and operation, including low-level hardware and software interactions, beyond the use of frameworks, libraries, or code-examples. Able to write non-blocking, clean, maintainable and reusable code from general requirements Complex problem-solving skills, attention to detail and a methodical mindset. Ability to read electronics schematic diagrams, with a good understanding of electronic hardware design and circuit operation. Very comfortable with lab equipment such as digital oscilloscope, signal generators, logic analysers, etc) and have basic soldering and prototyping skills. Experience with IOT technologies & common network protocols (Wi-Fi / BLE / MQTT / etc) Experience of working within a Quality System ideally EN ISO 13485 or ISO 9001 and awareness of validation and verification procedures. Qualifications & Professional Experience : Degree in Electronics Engineering. At least 3-5 years of industrial experience in firmware design. Desirable Skills & Experience : Hardware design experience. Familiarity with CE directives & standards such as EN62304. App development experience for iOS / Android devices.
