VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Automation Engineer National Grid Home-based Quarterly travel to Bristol SC Cleared Build something new from the ground up National Grid is developing a new greenfield computing environment within its IT portfolio, built around VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and the wider VMware technology stack. We're looking for an experienced VMware Cloud Foundation Engineer to join the team during the development of this new platform. This is a genuine greenfield engineering opportunity. The team is currently working through the development and validation stages, so you'll have the opportunity to influence how the platform is built, automated and ultimately transitioned into production. We're particularly interested in engineers who have enterprise-scale VMware deployment experience and who enjoy building platforms rather than simply maintaining existing environments. What you'll be doing You'll play a hands-on role in developing the new VMware platform, including: Building and configuring VMware Cloud Foundation, vSphere and ESXi Supporting the development of VCF workload domains, clusters and compute infrastructure. Using VCF APIs, Ansible and Python to automate deployment and configuration. Developing repeatable Infrastructure as Code and Git-based deployment practices. Automating VM provisioning, configuration and standardisation. Working with the wider engineering team across NSX, networking, storage and security . Supporting the integration of the platform with enterprise monitoring and Splunk Cloud . Testing, troubleshooting and validating the platform as it progresses through development. Helping establish engineering standards, deployment patterns and operational processes for the new environment. What we're looking for You'll bring strong hands-on experience across the VMware technology stack, with particular expertise in: VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) vSphere and ESXi Enterprise-scale VMware deployments Greenfield VMware platform builds VMware compute architecture and cluster design VMware APIs and infrastructure automation Ansible and/or Python Infrastructure as Code and Git/source control Understanding of NSX and software-defined networking We're looking for someone who can do more than administer VMware. You'll ideally have built and deployed large-scale VMware environments and be comfortable working through the technical challenges that come with developing a new platform.
