Key Responsibilities As a Setting Out Engineer , you will be required to: Set out civil engineering works accurately using GPS, total station, and traditional surveying equipment Use Trimble hardware and software for setting out, surveying, and data management Interpret drawings, specifications, and digital design models to ensure correct implementation on site Carry out topographical, control, and as-built surveys as required Establish and maintain site control points, datums, and benchmarks Check and verify line, level, and alignment of works including earthworks, drainage, roads, and structures Liaise with site management, subcontractors, and operatives to coordinate setting-out activities Identify, report, and assist in resolving design discrepancies and site issues Ensure works are delivered in accordance with quality standards and project tolerances Assist with quality assurance records, inspection test plans (ITPs), and as-built documentation Maintain accurate site records and survey data Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and company procedures at all times Support and mentor junior engineers or site staff when required Health, Safety & Environment Actively promote a positive health and safety culture on site Ensure all setting-out activities comply with site safety requirements and risk assessments Adhere to environmental controls and sustainability objectives Skills & Experience Essential: Experience working as a Setting Out Engineer on civil engineering projects Proven experience using Trimble GPS, total stations, and associated Trimble software Strong understanding of construction drawings and specifications Good knowledge of setting-out methods and survey techniques Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively Strong communication and teamwork skills Desirable: Experience on highways, earthworks, drainage, or infrastructure projects Familiarity with digital engineering and BIM models CSCS card (relevant level) SMSTS or SSSTS Qualifications HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience) Personal Attributes A proactive Setting Out Engineer with a strong focus on accuracy and quality Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail Flexible and adaptable to site-based working (Sites across Scotland) Committed to high standards of health, safety, and workmanship
