Field Service Engineer - Generators Location: Bristol, Gloucester, Taunton Salary: 35,000 - 40,000 + overtime OTE: 50,000+ Benefits: Company vehicle, on-call bonus, mobile phone, laptop, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays An established engineering business is looking to appoint a Field Service Engineer to support a busy depot across the South West and South Coast. This is a predominantly field-based role, with some depot-based work required depending on business needs. The successful candidate will support the Depot Foreman with day-to-day engineering requirements, working on generator equipment both at customer sites and within the depot. This is a great opportunity for an engineer with experience in generators, plant hire, mechanical maintenance, electrical fault finding, temporary power, standby power or critical power generation. The Role You will be responsible for carrying out service, maintenance, repairs and fault finding on generator equipment across customer sites and within the depot. The role will involve both mechanical and electrical work, including control panels, AC/DC systems and genset synchronisation. You will also support the out-of-hours callout rota, liaise directly with customers and complete relevant service documentation. Responsibilities Carry out servicing and maintenance on generators both on-site and in the depot Complete mechanical and electrical repairs Fault find across control panels and AC/DC electrical systems Work on genset synchronisation Support the out-of-hours callout rota, currently 1 in 5, including bank holidays when required Liaise directly with customers in a professional manner Complete daily vehicle defect reports Complete paperwork linked to equipment maintenance, including service sheets and PDI sheets Follow health and safety procedures at all times Support depot engineering requirements when needed Requirements NVQ in Plant Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Experience within generators, plant hire or a similar engineering environment Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding ability Able to prioritise workload and complete weekly service schedules on time Full UK driving licence, held for a minimum of 3 years Confident working independently and as part of a team Strong communication skills Customer-focused approach Forklift licence would be beneficial, although training can be provided Package 35,000 - 40,000 basic salary Overtime available, with OTE above 50,000 Company service vehicle On-call bonus Mobile phone Laptop 25 days paid annual leave plus bank holidays Training and development Opportunity to join a busy, established engineering team This role would suit an experienced engineer from a temporary power, standby power, critical power, generator, plant, marine, HGV or ex-forces engineering background. This is a field-based role suited to an engineer with strong electrical knowledge, hands-on generator experience and the confidence to work as the lead engineer on site. The role will involve regular travel across the South East, with occasional overnight stays depending on project requirements. The Role As Project Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering maintenance-related project works across generator and critical power systems. You will attend site as the principal engineer, carrying out upgrades, installations, fault finding, surveys, commissioning and technical support. You will work closely with internal project, technical, workshop and maintenance teams to ensure works are completed safely, professionally and to a high standard. Key Responsibilities Attend customer sites as the lead engineer for maintenance projects Complete controller and panel upgrades Carry out generator fault finding across a range of engines, controllers and models Complete site surveys and provide clear technical feedback Support office teams, workshop teams and field maintenance engineers with technical queries Manage and complete maintenance project works on site Assist with RAMS documentation Carry out commissioning works Maintain strong customer communication throughout each project Skills and Experience Required Strong practical electrical engineering knowledge Experience working on LV power generation and distribution systems Good understanding of generator control systems such as ComAp, Deep Sea or similar Experience with engine analysis and control software such as ComAp PC Suite, DSE Configuration Suite or similar Experience with multi-set and synchronising controls PLC programming skills Strong fault-finding ability across generators, controllers and associated systems Confident working independently and managing your own workload Happy with regular travel, high mileage and occasional working away Qualifications 18th Edition Gas Safe qualification CSCS card Mechanical or electrical engineering qualification CAD experience IT or broadband network knowledge Knowledge of BMS protocol languages such as Modbus, Profibus or BACne We are open to candidates based across: London, Home Counties, Hampshire, West Sussex, Surrounding South East locations Package 40,000 - 55,000 basic salary DOE + OT + Benefits listed at top of ad.
