As part of this recruitment drive, a fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the London Borough of Camden as their Head of Capital Works.About the RoleThis role leads Capital Works delivery for the Council's Property Management Division. The division looks after the Council's housing stock and delivers capital works for a number of the schools in the borough. The Council has 33,000 homes and maintains 49 schools and children's centres.The Council's housing capital programme is valued at £670m as part of the Housing Investment Strategy which was approved January 2025. Working closely with the property asset management team, the Capital Works team is responsible for the delivery of fabric, fire safety and mechanical and electrical capital works across the Council's homes and schools.The Head of Capital Works is responsible for managing and developing a team of programme managers, project managers and technical officers.The post holder will work with the Heads of Service within the Property Management Division and with key stakeholders from across the Council, building a collaborative environment to develop better ways of working, our systems and our approach to stakeholder engagement. The post holder will need to build strong relationships with key stakeholders in a public facing environment, keep up to date with process and project best practice and advise on high level strategic direction.The Capital Works team also plays a critical part in discharging our obligations under the Social Housing (Regulation) Act 2023 and also the Building Safety Act 2022, by delivering work to tall buildings and making sure due processes are followed. The Council has a strong Building Safety function and the senior management team works collaboratively to make sure Regulatory Standards are met.About YouYou will have a strong track record in capital works delivery, preferably in a social housing setting. In particular you will be experienced in working with supply chain partners at a senior level and managing both large contractors and specialist suppliers. Commercial awareness is also required as is the ability to work with consultant contract administrators to manage contracts effectively and make sure the Council secures the right outcomes with regards time, quality and cost.
