Job Description

Role: Technical Pension Consultant

Role type: Permanent

Location: Fully Remote


Primary purpose of the role:

To deliver in-depth and high standards of policy and technical support to the Cabinet Office, employers, members, internal operational teams and external stakeholders.

This will be achieved by working with the Head of Policy & Technical to meet the team's objectives as set by the Head of Business Controls.

The role is to monitor and research legislative developments, to ensure that all operational teams are informed of the implications, to engage with project and change initiatives, and to mentor/coach less experienced members of the team.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for internal operational teams and the Cabinet Office.
  • Research and interpret legislative developments and maintain a forward view of known or potential changes ('horizon scanning').
  • Completion of policy & technical casework and working effectively with other operational teams.
  • Draft communications within set deadlines.
  • Draft technical responses to internal staff and Cabinet Office.
  • Ensure that all materials and communications owned by the team are up to date.
  • Promote quality, knowledge sharing and change by working with other operational teams and across CSPS processes.
  • Review own performance and objectives for further development.

Key tasks

  • Analyse the impact of legislative and regulatory change.
  • Critically analyse statutory documents.
  • Proactive communications on legislative developments to raise business awareness and planning.
  • Ensure that all materials and communications owned by the Policy & Technical Team are up to date.
  • Identify and recommend improvements in Policy & Technical Team materials.
  • Support on the design and delivery of training sessions to other operational teams.
  • Work effectively with key operational teams for technical delivery.
  • Supporting the Complaints Team with Pensions Ombudsman cases, MP and Cabinet Office escalations.
  • Drafting of relevant content for inclusion in client service delivery reporting.
  • Represent the business externally and positively e.g. professional body events and other channels as appropriate.

Technical competencies

Essential

  • Pensions Technical knowledge including the CSPS: Ability to understand and interpret the CSPS and wider pensions and tax legislation, keep up to date and identify future changes. Contribute to operational planning and efficiency by conveying technical change in practical and concise terms.
  • Complaint and dispute handling: Ability to support complaints and regulatory disputes in collaboration with the client. Contribute to and drive changes and improvements by conveying lessons learned and root cause analysis.
  • Project working and change delivery: Ability to work independently and effectively as part of project teams. Contribute technical advice and requirements in layman's terms, work to deadlines and identify and control risks.
  • Research and communication skills: Ability to complete independent research using company's tools and appropriate sources of information. Contribute to CSPS and business objectives by providing succinct internal and external summaries and guidance.
  • Represent the business externally: Ability to grow own network and profile, including for the benefit of CSPS and client. Contribute to CSPS and company's external materials and, as appropriate, industry bodies.
  • IT skills: Ability to confidently use Office 365 and learn new or company's proprietary systems to perform role.

Relevant PMI, CII or appropriate qualification: Ability to answer technical questions on a wide range of pensions related subjects, providing succinct views and provide recommendations or advice to key areas of the CSPS and Client.
