We are seeking an experienced Web Design Consultant to lead the design, structure, and user experience for a major website redevelopment on behalf of a UK-based professional membership organisation.
This is an end-to-end design consultancy role where the site's structure, content plan, and architecture are yet to be defined. You will play a key role in shaping these foundations from the ground up, working alongside internal stakeholders and external developers to plan, design, and deliver a website that is functional, visually engaging, and fully aligned with brand and accessibility requirements.
This fast-paced environment demands a strategic yet hands-on designer who can work autonomously with limited direction while collaborating effectively across multiple workstreams.
You must have the following to apply:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in web design or digital consultancy roles with a strong portfolio demonstrating responsive, UX-led web design
- Proven expertise designing and delivering complex websites in corporate, membership, or professional service environments
- Strong understanding of UX/UI design principles and responsive design best practice
- Proficiency in Figma, Adobe XD, or other modern design and prototyping tools
- Knowledge of CMS workflows with ability to advise on content management approaches
- Awareness of accessibility standards (WCAG) and SEO considerations in design
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Highly organised, proactive approach with proven ability to work autonomously to deadlines
- UK-based with right to work and availability for approximately 54 days across the 10-month contract period
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, design, and deliver a visually appealing, user-friendly website aligned with organisational objectives and brand guidelines
- Define website architecture, layout hierarchy, and navigation structure from scratch
- Lead UI/UX design from wireframes through to final design prototypes
- Conduct client and supplier consultations to translate requirements into design outputs
- Provide advice on CMS implementation and content integration (text, imagery, and video)
- Optimise the website for responsiveness, accessibility, and SEO performance
- Create and maintain design documentation, assets, and component libraries
- Support development handover, testing, and post-launch design refinements
- Provide ongoing support and recommendations throughout delivery
About the Client:
The client is a long-established professional membership body representing a network of organisations across the UK and Europe. It promotes professional standards, collaboration, and innovation within its sector and serves as a hub for events, education, and policy advocacy.
As part of its digital modernisation programme, the organisation is redeveloping its website to strengthen member engagement, improve user experience, and better reflect its strategic priorities. The Web Design Consultant will play a pivotal role in shaping the online presence that supports these goals.
This is not a role for a web developer or content manager without dedicated design expertise. We are seeking a senior digital designer or consultant confident in running projects with minimal direction while maintaining collaborative relationships across the delivery team.
The commitment is approximately 5-6 days per month over a 10-month period, offering flexibility for an experienced consultant seeking project-based engagement.
Please do not apply if:
- You are primarily a web developer or content manager without dedicated design expertise
- You do not have demonstrable experience creating professional-grade web design systems
- You are unable to commit to the contract timeframe or required level of engagement
- You require extensive direction or project management support to deliver design work
