Our client, a leading public sector institution, is seeking a Group Financial Accountant to lead a talented team of financial professionals and drive excellence in accounting, reporting and financial control. About the RoleThis is a senior finance position with responsibility for managing a small team of accountants, ensuring robust financial policies, processes and controls are in place across the organisation and its subsidiaries. You will lead consolidation processes, deliver insightful reporting and act as the technical accounting expert for the group. Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation of financial statements for the organisation and its subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with UK accounting standards.
  • Act as the technical authority on accounting treatments, proactively monitoring and implementing changes to standards where necessary.
  • Oversee external reporting to regulators, statutory bodies and Companies House, as well as corporation tax submissions.
  • Manage the day-to-day relationship with external auditors, ensuring a smooth audit process.
  • Drive month-end and year-end close processes, delivering accurate financial results and insightful variance analysis.
  • Lead and develop a team of three financial accountants, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Work collaboratively across finance teams to ensure efficiency, consistency and integration across all group entities.
About You
  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified with substantial experience in financial accounting.
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK accounting standards and experience with group reporting (FRS 102)
  • Proven leadership experience, capable of motivating and developing a small team.
  • Highly organised with excellent communication skills and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
  • Comfortable working in a complex public sector environment with multiple stakeholders and subsidiaries.
