Invigilator (Zero-Hours)

Brighton College is seeking to appoint Theatre Staff on a zero-hour basis.
Main Purpose of the Role: In this role you will work within an experienced team of invigilators
conducting internal and external exams, ensuring that all candidates have an equal opportunity
to demonstrate their abilities and that all regulations are adhered to. You will also carry out
other exam related duties as instructed by the Exams Officer and the Head of Examinations.
General Duties and Responsibilities
Main duties:
- To conduct internal (including mock exams and admissions tests) and external exams in accordance with the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), awarding body and Brighton College regulations and instructions.
- To have a key role in ensuring that the exam process is conducted in a fair and secure manner.
Before exams:
- Report to and be briefed by the Exams Officer prior to each exam session.
- Keep confidential exam question papers and materials secure before, during and after exams.
- Ensure exam rooms are set up according to the requirements outlined by JCQ and the awarding bodies and complete the pre-exam checklist.
- Admit candidates into exam rooms under formal exam conditions, whilst confirming their identities (where necessary), and assist in seating them according to the required arrangements.
- Distribute the correct question papers and exam materials to candidates.
- Instruct candidates in the conduct of their exams (including reading any erratum notices), deal with any questions and then start the exams.
During exams:
- Supervise and observe candidates at all times and be vigilant throughout exams, dealing with candidate questions according to the regulations.
- Keep disruption in exam rooms to a minimum and deal with emergencies, irregularities/suspected malpractice or disruptions effectively. Recording and reporting all instances of these to the Exams Officer/Head of Examinations.
- Ensure late candidates are briefed, seated and allowed the full time to complete their exam, whilst minimising disruption to other candidates.
- Complete attendance registers and sign the seating plan, informing the Exams Officer of any absent candidates by following the absent candidate procedure.
After exams:
- Instruct candidates in finishing their exams (including the printing and signing of typed scripts) and then collect exam scripts and materials.
- Check candidates' names on scripts match the details on the attendance register and then dismiss candidates from the exam room. Securely return all exam scripts and materials to the Exams Officer.
- To ensure the exam rooms are prepared prior to the next exam.
Other responsibilities:
- Undertake annual Safeguarding and Invigilator update training face to face, as part of this you would then need to complete an online training units after the face to face training. There would also be other review and update sessions will be conducted as required.
- Undertake, where required and where able, other duties requested by the Exams Officer, for example: Centre supervision of exam timetable clash candidates between exam sessions. Facilitating access arrangements for candidates, for example as a reader, scribe etc. (full training will be provided).
- Other exams-related administrative tasks including maintaining question paper security by supporting the 'second pair of eyes check'.
Hours of Work
Invigilators are required on a zero-hour basis to cover a variety of hours. Applicants must be available throughout the year, including the summer months. The services you provide to the College will be on an ad-hoc basis. This means that whilst the College will try to give you as much notice as possible when offering work, there is no obligation on the part of the College to provide such work nor for you to accept any work offered.
Remuneration
£14.26 per hour, inclusive of holiday pay.

Holiday entitlement is included in the hourly pay rate for this role.
