Job Description

Goodman Masson are currently working with a social housing organisation in Sussex to recruit for an interim Damp & Mould Surveyor.

Pay Rate: £250 - £300 a day Umbrella

About the Role

You ll be responsible for inspecting properties where damp or mould has been identified, diagnosing the cause, and ensuring that remedial works are carried out to a high standard. Working closely with residents, contractors, and internal teams, you ll make sure every case is handled with professionalism, empathy, and efficiency.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out detailed property inspections and specifying remedial works.
  • Managing cases from inspection to completion, ensuring quality, safety, and value for money.
  • Providing expert advice on complex repair issues such as damp, structural defects, or drainage.
  • Supporting delivery of the organisation s Damp & Mould Action Plan and contributing to service improvements.
  • Liaising with residents to provide advice on preventing condensation and maintaining healthy homes.
  • Working collaboratively with contractors and colleagues to deliver a high-quality, customer-focused service.
  • Preparing technical reports, cost estimates, and contributing to forecasting and efficiency plans.
  • Ensuring all work complies with current legislation and health & safety requirements.
  • Participating in an out-of-hours rota as required.

About You

You ll bring:

  • A relevant Level 4 qualification (HNC/HND or equivalent) in building surveying or damp investigation.
  • Extensive experience in building surveying or maintenance, ideally within social housing.
  • In-depth knowledge of damp and mould diagnosis, disrepair legislation, and the Housing Health & Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
  • Strong organisational skills and experience managing complex caseloads.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build trust and confidence.
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle for site visits.

Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. RICS, CIOB) is desirable but not essential.
