JOB SUMMARYExperienced and passionate
Team Manager to take operational responsibility for a team of dedicated social workers. This is a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and long-term outcomes of some of the borough s most vulnerable children and families.
JOB DESCRIPTION The duties and responsibilities of the role will include:

- Assessment and care planning for children in need and those subject to child protection plans or legal proceedings.
- Direct engagement and relationship-based practice with children and families to achieve safety, stability, and positive outcomes.
- Permanence planning for looked after children and care leavers up to their second statutory review. As a Team Manager, you will lead a team responsible for delivering the Council s statutory responsibilities for children in the following areas:
- You will manage and develop staff, oversee case allocation, ensure compliance with statutory requirements, and drive continuous practice improvement. Your leadership will help embed a high-performing, reflective, and outcome-focused culture across the team
- Lead, support, and supervise a team of qualified social workers.
- Ensure high-quality, timely assessments and plans that safeguard children and promote well-being.
- Promote and uphold Croydon s early help and staged intervention model.
- Use performance data and quality assurance frameworks to monitor, evaluate, and improve practice.
- Contribute to strategic planning, service development, and change management.
- Maintain expert knowledge of current legislation, policy, and best practice in children s social care
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE The successful candidate will have the following skills and competencies:

- Essential Qualifications & Registration
- A recognised social work qualification.
- Registered with Social Work England (formerly HCPC).
Essential Experience & Skills - Proven ability to manage and supervise child care social workers.
- Strong leadership in high-risk, complex operational settings.
- Skilled in reflective supervision that drives positive outcomes.
- Experience in change management and embedding a performance culture.
- Confident in budget control and delivering value for money.
- Clear understanding of children s social care legislation, guidance, and safeguarding frameworks.
