Job Description

This is an exceptional opportunity for a recognised vocal practitioner and performer to lead and transform the singing provision across our Senior School.

As one of the country's leading co-educational schools, music plays a pivotal role here at Alleyn's, and we are seeking an ambitious, energetic and creative musician to develop our vocal programme and establish singing as an equally valued and celebrated strand alongside our outstanding instrumental provision.

Our vocal programme demonstrates considerable strength and ambition. Our choirs perform regularly in concerts and services both at school and at major venues across London. Singers feature prominently in our concert programmes, and we have established two successful partnership initiatives involving choral training with local schools. Our recent production of Anything Goes showcased extraordinary vocal talent in the Upper School.

Building on these successes, there is exciting potential for further growth and for embedding singing more deeply in the communal culture of the whole school.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading all aspects of vocal provision across multiple genres, with particular emphasis on their own area of specialism.

This hugely important role combines individual teaching with strategic leadership, ensemble direction, and administrative coordination, offering the opportunity to shape the future of singing at one of London's most vibrant and ambitious music departments.

This appointment reflects the strategic importance we place on nurturing vocal music throughout the school community and elevating singing to sit at an equal level to our other exceptional musical offerings. Singing is embedded in the KS3 curriculum, and there is an opportunity to contribute to this important area of the music provision in the department.

The Head of Vocal Studies will work closely with the Director of Music and the wider departmental team to build on our current strengths and ensure that singing sits at the heart of musical life at Alleyn's.

Interviews are planned for Monday 9 February.

All staff enjoy access to superb facilities and resources, as well as a variety of great benefits which are detailed in our Working at Alleyn's brochure.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss an application, you are very welcome to contact the HR Department (, ).

Please note that suitable candidates may be interviewed before the closing date, and we reserve the right to withdraw the position if an early appointment is made.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check. Alleyn's is an Equal Opportunities employer.

Alleyn's welcomes applications from all applicants who meet the requirements for the position, however we are especially keen to receive applications from those in minority groups for which the School is currently underrepresented. We celebrate diversity and thrive on the benefits it brings.
