Role: Learning Support Assistant (SEMH and Autism)



About the Role

We are currently recruiting Learning Support Assistants to work within a well-established and supportive secondary specialist provision in North London.

The setting supports pupils aged 11-16 with SEMH, including:

  • Autism (ASD)
  • SEMH - Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs
  • Behaviour's that challenge

The school offers a highly structured, nurturing and relationship-led environment, focusing on engagement, emotional regulation and positive behaviour support.

This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people and making a meaningful impact on their education and development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting students on a 1:1 and small group basis

  • Assisting pupils with academic learning across the curriculum

  • Supporting behaviour management using positive de-escalation strategies

  • Encouraging engagement, confidence and emotional regulation

  • Working closely with teachers and SEN staff to implement support plans

  • Promoting a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment

  • Assisting with transitions between lessons and throughout the school day

Ideal Candidates

  • Experience working with children or young people (school-based or transferable experience welcome)

  • A genuine interest in SEN and behaviour support

  • Patience, resilience and a calm approach

  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils

  • Graduates, youth workers, support workers and psychology graduates are encouraged to apply
