Job Description
My client is a highly acquisitive, fast-growing business delivering mechanical projects across a national retail portfolio. With an expanding footprint driven by both organic growth and strategic acquisitions, they are seeking an experienced Mechanical Operations Director to lead and scale their mechanical division during an exciting phase of expansion. This is a pivotal senior leadership role for a commercially astute and operationally strong individual who thrives in fast-paced, high-volume environments. The successful candidate will have extensive experience delivering projects ranging from £10k reactive and fast-track works through to multi-million-pound capital programmes, often within live retail trading environments. As Mechanical Operations Director, you will hold full responsibility for the operational performance, technical compliance, and profitability of mechanical projects delivered nationwide. You will lead regional operational teams, ensure consistency of delivery standards across the business, and play a key role in integrating newly acquired companies into a unified and high-performing structure. A strong understanding of retail project delivery is essential, particularly the ability to operate at pace while maintaining safety, quality, and minimal disruption to trading stores. The role requires both strategic oversight and hands-on leadership. You will provide technical authority across the business, including mechanical design review, value engineering, and ensuring best practice in HVAC, public health, and plant systems. Design knowledge is essential, as you will be expected to challenge specifications, support innovation, and ensure robust and commercially sound solutions are delivered across all projects. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong track record in senior mechanical operations leadership, ideally within a multi-site retail environment. Experience operating within a highly acquisitive or high-growth business is highly desirable, as is proven capability managing nationwide project portfolios with full P&L responsibility. Strong commercial awareness, the ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams, and a leadership style that develops and motivates high-performing teams are critical to success in this position. My client offers a senior leadership opportunity with genuine board-level influence and autonomy. This role presents the chance to shape and scale a national mechanical division within a business that is ambitious, well-backed, and positioned for continued growth. A competitive executive salary, performance-related incentives, company car or allowance, and comprehensive benefits package are available for the right candidate. If you are an experienced mechanical operations leader with strong retail expertise and the ability to deliver excellence in a fast-moving, acquisitive environment, please apply today.
