Design Manager - Water Industry Location: Manchester (Hybrid working) Contract: 12 month contract Rate: 355 to 445 per day (outside IR35) An established engineering and construction design specialist is seeking an experienced Design Manager to support the delivery of projects across regulated clean and wastewater projects in the UK. This is a contract opportunity suited to candidates with strong technical capability, leadership experience, and a background in the water sector. The Projects you'll be working on Varied projects across the UK water industry, including: Designs of UMON 3 and 4 upgrades at sewage treatment works nationwide Designs of clean water main replacements nationwide Key Responsibilities Manage, direct and develop engineers, CAD technicians and graduates. Grow the design team and maintain a positive ethos and attitude within the team. Lead the design process on multidisciplinary water industry projects. Challenge, improve and shape formal processes and procedures for design team and ensure work is undertaken using them. Identify and implement appropriate software packages, and drive the use of BIM and 3D modelling where necessary. Ensure team produce design deliverables that satisfy safety and quality requirements and are fully integrated. Required Qualifications & Experience 10 years' experience working in the engineering design industry in a regulated sector such as: Rail, Water, Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Highways, Bridges. Graduate, HND or significant experience from Technician level Good level of IT skills Preferred Qualifications & Experience Experience in regulated water industry. A MEICA Project Engineer is required to support the technical delivery of the mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control scope across procurement, installation and commissioning. Working alongside the MEICA Site Lead and project team, the role will ensure that new process equipment and associated electrical and control systems are installed and integrated correctly within the existing works. The position will work closely with subcontractors, suppliers and site teams to support installation quality, resolve technical queries and ensure the project progresses smoothly into commissioning and operational handover. During the commissioning and reliability phase there will be participation in a standby / call-out rota providing out-of-hours support . What Are We Looking For? RSE is recruiting Senior Control System Engineers across our business to join us in delivering solutions to the Water industry, based out of our Basingstoke office. You ll be in involved in the development, commissioning and support of automation and control systems solutions as well as automation and control systems design, specification, programming, simulation, testing and start-up assistance. Some of Your Key Duties Include: Be responsible for the appropriate planning and carrying out of intrusive surveys on live control systems. You will identify and manage the risks associated with these surveys. Detailed design proposals that establish the scope of work required for new build and ICA refurbishment projects. Define the control system hardware and software requirements. Assist the electrical engineers with the development of robust Control Systems Architectures utilising appropriate technology in accordance with Client, WIMES and industrial standards. Provide specialist ICA assistance to the Engineer during the development of the Control Philosophy. Define the project Software Testing strategy and ensure appropriate time and resources are allocated. Be responsible for identifying the programme requirements to deliver Control System elements to achieve the project milestone dates. Develop detailed Functional Design Specifications and associated schedules from the agreed Control Philosophy in accordance with the Company s Quality procedures. Implementation of robust change control during the entire project lifecycle. Develop and self-test control system software to achieve the required functionality in accordance with the FDS. Develop the Factory Acceptance Test Documentation Fully document, resolve and re-test any defects identified during testing. Provide specialist control system assistance to the Commissioning Teams within the workshop and on site in conjunction with the RSE PM Carry out Site Acceptance Testing of the Control System against the SAT document. Investigate and provide technical advice and support to the design, delivery, and senior management teams on automation related issues.
