Quantity Surveyor Civils and Groundworks

Location: Hemel Hempstead
Ref: QS-KC-01

We are working with a well-established civil engineering and groundworks contractor, delivering infrastructure, enabling works, and reinforced concrete packages across a range of commercial and residential developments, who are on the lookout for a Quantity Surveyor to strengthen their team.

The business has built a strong reputation for reliability, technical capability, and long-standing relationships with main contractors and developers. Due to continued growth and secured workload, they are now looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to strengthen their commercial team.

The Quantity Surveyor s Role

The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the commercial management of civil engineering projects from pre-construction through to final account. You will work closely with Directors, Project Managers, Engineers, and site teams to ensure projects are delivered profitably and in line with contractual obligations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Full commercial management of civil engineering and groundworks packages
  • Preparing and agreeing valuations, variations, and final accounts
  • Procurement and commercial management of subcontractors and suppliers
  • Cost reporting, forecasting, and cash flow control
  • Supporting tendering and pre-construction pricing where required
  • Identifying and managing commercial risk and opportunity
  • Maintaining strong relationships with clients and delivery teams

Projects typically include groundworks, reinforced concrete, infrastructure, and enabling works across multiple sites.

The Quantity Surveyor

  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
  • Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or groundworks
  • Strong understanding of subcontract procurement and cost control
  • Experience with standard forms of contract
  • Commercially astute, organised, and detail-focused
  • Confident communicator, able to deal directly with clients and site teams
  • Full UK driving licence preferred
