Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Cardiographer to join the Cardiology Department at Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. You will be responsible for independently performing a range of simple diagnostic tests within the cardiac assessment unit in line with daily workload schedules. You will support effective communication within the multidisciplinary team, assist with reception duties, and contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the department. Additionally, you will be responsible for supporting equipment checks such as crash trolley and defibrillator readiness, managing stock levels, assisting in training junior staff, and maintaining your own professional development to ensure high standards of patient care.

Main duties of the job

As a Cardiographer, you will be responsible for performing 12-lead ECGs and fitting, explaining, and monitoring various cardiac devices including 24-hour heart monitors, BP monitors, and 7-day monitors. You will be supporting Exercise Tolerance Tests and delivering services across two hospital sites PAH and SMH. You will manage patient information using the Hospital Patient Administration systems (Alex Health, XERO) and the Cardiology patient management system (CRIS) for booking and data entry. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working environment, including ensuring all equipment is appropriately cleaned and ready for use.

Job Roles & Responsibilities

  • To ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation of all diagnostic procedures, maintaining patient records in line with Trust and departmental standards.
  • To provide guidance and support to patients regarding cardiac procedures, addressing questions and concerns to ensure understanding and compliance.
  • To liaise with other healthcare professionals to communicate patient results, escalating any abnormal findings promptly to senior staff.
  • To participate in audit and quality improvement activities to ensure high standards of patient care and service efficiency.
  • To maintain up-to-date knowledge of cardiac assessment protocols, equipment usage, and safety regulations through continuous professional development.
  • To contribute to the planning and organisation of workload, prioritising patient care and diagnostic procedures effectively across the department.

Person Specifications & Qualifications

  • GCSEs in Maths and English, grade 4 or above.
  • Experience performing ECGs.
  • Experience in a similar role.
  • Previous NHS experience.
  • Willingness to develop skills and CPD.
