This is an excellent opportunity to join DWP Hybrid Cloud Services as a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, helping to deliver innovative digital solutions that make a real difference to the lives of our users. We are leading the adoption of Public Cloud services in line with Government Digital Service guidance and DWP strategic hosting principles.

The Hybrid Cloud Services team designs, builds and runs all hosting infrastructure across both Public Cloud and on premises environments. We work closely with product and service owners to support their transition to Cloud based services.

Our strategy is to deliver a Digital by Default approach by providing an end to end multi cloud hosting service for our Product Development Units. This means offering a securely connected hosting environment that reduces the reliance on traditional hosting models and legacy contracts.

To achieve this, we are focusing on standardisation, simplification and automation. We are also developing the processes, training and tools needed to accelerate delivery and ensure our teams have everything required to succeed.

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer for Hybrid Cloud Services, you will be capable of role modelling Infrastructure solutions which adhere to best practice, with a focus on operational stability, resilience, and availability.

This position will collaborate with Architects, Site Reliability Engineers, Delivery Managers, and Product Managers, who all support the implementation and operation of Cloud hosted products and services.

We ensure that we're aligned to the Department's Technical Reference Architecture (TRA) and Security and Compliance Standards in all stages of development and delivery.

Role & Responsibilities

• Support the design and implementation of Public Cloud infrastructure services/solutions to meet strategic plans and roadmaps.
• Responsible for operational management of Public Cloud hosted technologies, products, and services, with a focus on security, availability, resilience, and performance.
• Provide specialist service or solution technical support and assistance to junior staff and users and undertake line management responsibilities.
• Development and implementation of service improvement plans to address identified issues for Public Cloud hosted technologies, products, and services.
• Responsibility for management and resolution of Incidents for Public Cloud hosted technologies, products, and services.

When completing your employment history and personal statement, ensure you clearly demonstrate your significant experience in relation to the essential criteria outlined below.

• Lead Criterion - Managing and deploying applications to managed Kubernetes platforms such as EKS and AKS.
• Cloud compute, storage, and configuration, ensuring solutions are repeatable, scalable, resilient, and highly available.
• Use and administration of source code management systems such as GitLab, including writing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Writing Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), using Terraform, and writing Config-as-Code (CaC) using Ansible. CloudFormation desirable.
• Identifying and automating toil where appropriate, to improve efficiency, increase reliability and reduce repetitive manual tasks.
• Working within Service and Delivery management frameworks (ITIL - Incident, Problem, Change, and Agile methodologies).
• Influential with strong communication and leadership skills.
