The role encompasses metallic, non metallic, and composite materials, covering design, production, testing, and maintenance phases. Core responsibilities include damage tolerance, durability, and structural modelling across dynamics, loads, stability, stress fatigue and thermal analyses. The duty cycle uses a broad array of engineering tools, notably MSC Nastran, MSC Marc, Siemens Simcenter, Beta CAE, ANSA, and PTC Creo. The Role: So, what will you be doing as an Lead Structural Engineer? The Structural Integrity Engineer will be a Subject Matter Expert in structural analysis and integrity decision making, operating within the Structural Integrity Group, a sub function of the Engineering Department. Core responsibilities include: Developing and validating high fidelity finite element models for metallic, composite and hybrid structures. Executing static, dynamic, vibrational, thermal and fluid structure interaction analyses. Performing damage tolerance and fatigue assessments. Authoring concise strength summary reports and risk assessments that satisfy MoD and customer standards. Translating analysis outcomes into manufacturing instructions and inspection plans. Leading knowledge transfer workshops and maintaining model libraries. Championing process improvement through new software, material databases and automation scripts. Representing the Company at design reviews, client briefings and external audits. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a highly dynamic engineering environment supporting cutting-edge programmes across platform integration, air defence, and advanced weapons systems. This role sits within the Structural Integrity Group and will see you operating as a technical specialist, delivering high-quality structural analysis across a wide range of complex systems. The Role As a Structural Integrity Engineer, you will: Develop and validate high-fidelity finite element models across metallic and composite structures Perform static, dynamic, thermal, vibration, and fatigue analyses Conduct damage tolerance and durability assessments Produce clear strength summaries, reports, and risk assessments aligned to MoD standards Translate analysis outputs into manufacturing and inspection requirements Support design reviews, client engagements, and technical audits Drive continuous improvement through tools, automation, and modelling processes Key Requirements Degree-qualified (BEng or equivalent) in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering Strong background in structural analysis (5+ years in industry) Proven experience with MSC Nastran and associated pre/post-processing tools (Patran, Simcenter, ANSA, etc.) Solid understanding of linear and non-linear analysis methods Experience with fatigue, stress analysis, and hand calculations Knowledge of metallic materials (aluminium, titanium, steel) and exposure to composites Scripting experience (Python or similar) and familiarity with HPC environments is advantageous Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally Additional Information Hybrid working: On-site Mondays and Tuesdays, remote remainder (subject to business needs) Candidates must be eligible to obtain Security Clearance (SC) and be willing to progress to Developed Vetting (DV) Opportunity to work a compressed 4-day week with flexible arrangements Initial start on BPSS, with full-time on-site requirement once DV is achieved This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to high-profile defence projects while working in a collaborative and forward-thinking engineering team.
