Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Lead Structural Engineer to join a leading global defence organisation at their Ampthill site. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a highly dynamic engineering environment supporting cutting-edge programmes across platform integration, air defence, and advanced weapons systems.

This role sits within the Structural Integrity Group and will see you operating as a technical specialist, delivering high-quality structural analysis across a wide range of complex systems.

The Role

As a Structural Integrity Engineer, you will:

  • Develop and validate high-fidelity finite element models across metallic and composite structures
  • Perform static, dynamic, thermal, vibration, and fatigue analyses
  • Conduct damage tolerance and durability assessments
  • Produce clear strength summaries, reports, and risk assessments aligned to MoD standards
  • Translate analysis outputs into manufacturing and inspection requirements
  • Support design reviews, client engagements, and technical audits
  • Drive continuous improvement through tools, automation, and modelling processes

Key Requirements

  • Degree-qualified (BEng or equivalent) in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Strong background in structural analysis (5+ years in industry)
  • Proven experience with MSC Nastran and associated pre/post-processing tools (Patran, Simcenter, ANSA, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of linear and non-linear analysis methods
  • Experience with fatigue, stress analysis, and hand calculations
  • Knowledge of metallic materials (aluminium, titanium, steel) and exposure to composites
  • Scripting experience (Python or similar) and familiarity with HPC environments is advantageous
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally

Additional Information

  • Hybrid working: On-site Mondays and Tuesdays, remote remainder (subject to business needs)
  • Candidates must be eligible to obtain Security Clearance (SC) and be willing to progress to Developed Vetting (DV)
  • Opportunity to work a compressed 4-day week with flexible arrangements
  • Initial start on BPSS, with full-time on-site requirement once DV is achieved

This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to high-profile defence projects while working in a collaborative and forward-thinking engineering team.
