Principal Structural Engineer

We have an opportunity for a driven Structural Engineer to become a Principal Structural Engineer within a boutique structural engineering consultancy in Hammersmith, West London. Known for delivering practical, high-quality engineering solutions across the residential sector. They are currently seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to lead their team in Hammersmith. This is a senior opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys leading teams, developing client relationships, and playing a key role in the delivery of technically robust projects.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative and forward-thinking engineering team working primarily on residential developments, including housing schemes and low-rise apartment projects. You will take a leading role in both project delivery and team development, overseeing engineers and technicians while maintaining close relationships with clients and project stakeholders. This consultancy embraces modern technology and BIM-led workflows, providing an environment where innovative thinking and efficient digital delivery are actively encouraged. You will have the opportunity to influence projects from concept through to completion while helping to shape the future growth of the team.

Our client is looking for an experienced Structural Engineer who is comfortable operating at a senior level someone who can confidently manage projects, mentor engineers, and maintain strong client relationships. This role would suit a technically strong engineer with leadership ambitions who enjoys taking ownership of projects and contributing to a collaborative consultancy environment.

What You Need To Succeed

• Significant experience in structural design for residential developments, particularly housing and low-rise apartments.
• Ability to lead and mentor engineers and technicians, supporting their professional development.
• Strong experience managing projects and coordinating with architects, developers, and other consultants.
• Proficiency with industry-standard design software and BIM workflows.
• Confident client-facing skills, with the ability to maintain and develop professional relationships.
• Strong understanding of UK building regulations and structural design standards.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
• Chartered Engineer status with the IStructE/ICE (or actively working towards) is highly desirable.
• A strong academic background with a BEng or MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering.
