HSE Manager - Chemicals Manufacturing - Manchester - £50-60k + benefits

The Opportunity

We re supporting a growing speciality chemicals manufacturer to appoint a QHSE Manager at their COMAH-regulated site.

You ll take ownership of site-wide QHSE strategy, working closely with senior leadership to ensure risk is effectively managed and controls are embedded in day-to-day operations.

The Role

This is a hands-on leadership role with full responsibility for the site s QHSE framework, ensuring compliance while driving a practical, risk-based approach.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading COMAH compliance and regulatory engagement (HSE & Environment Agency)
  • Supporting emergency planning, MAPP development, and regulatory inspections
  • Driving process safety and major hazard risk management (COSHH, Human Factors, safety-critical tasks)
  • Overseeing and embedding Management of Change (MOC)
  • Leading incident investigations and ensuring learning is implemented
  • Managing environmental compliance, monitoring, and improvement initiatives
  • Overseeing occupational health and exposure risk management
  • Maintaining and improving ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 systems
  • Driving a strong, practical safety culture across site

About You

We re open to two profiles:

  • An experience in HSE/QHSE within chemicals, manufacturing, or COMAH environments
  • Strong grounding in risk assessment, audits, and compliance
  • Ready to take ownership and step into a site leadership role
  • Ambitious, proactive, and confident influencing site teams

Or

  • A proven experience leading QHSE within process or high-hazard industries
  • Looking to step into or further develop within a COMAH-regulated / upper-tier environment
  • Strong understanding of process safety and regulatory engagement
