Maintenance Operative Location: Elephant & Castle, London Sector: Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) Salary: £32,000 - £34,000 per annum About the Role We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Maintenance Operative to join a vibrant Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) scheme in Elephant & Castle. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering an outstanding living experience for residents across a diverse, multi-tenure development. Working closely with the on-site management team, you will be responsible for carrying out planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance , ensuring the building and its facilities are safe, compliant, and maintained to a high standard. Key Responsibilities Respond to and resolve day-to-day maintenance issues across apartments and communal areas Carry out basic plumbing, electrical, and general repair works Support end-of-tenancy turnaround processes, including redecorating and repairs Conduct regular inspections, building patrols, and health & safety checks Complete mid-term and post-checkout inspections, ensuring timely follow-up actions Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and compliance checks Assist with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and statutory testing (e.g. fire alarms, water checks) Support contractor management, ensuring work is completed safely and to standard Contribute to the overall upkeep of the estate, including external areas About You At least 2 years' experience in general maintenance or domestic plumbing NVQ Level 2 in Plumbing (or equivalent experience) preferred Good working knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical systems Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently Comfortable using systems and tools such as Microsoft Office Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach Flexible and willing to work weekends or public holidays when required Desirable 17th/18th Edition Electrical qualification Experience in residential, student accommodation, or build-to-rent environments IOSH or other Health & Safety qualifications What We're Looking For You'll be someone who takes pride in your work, shows initiative, and thrives in a fast-paced residential environment. A positive attitude, strong teamwork, and a commitment to delivering excellent service are essential.
