My client are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to join a growing engineering team delivering high-voltage infrastructure projects. The role focuses on the commissioning of power system equipment across transmission and distribution substations, ensuring safe, compliant, and high-quality energisation of assets.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out commissioning activities on power transformers, switchgear (AIS/GIS), and associated substation equipment
Perform functional testing, protection relay testing, and system integration checks
Review and execute commissioning plans, procedures, and test documentation
Support fault finding, diagnostics, and resolution during commissioning phases
Liaise with project engineers, clients, and site teams to ensure smooth delivery
Ensure all work is completed in line with industry standards, safety regulations, and project requirements
Produce clear commissioning reports and handover documentation
Requirements:
Proven experience in commissioning high-voltage substations
Strong hands-on experience with transformers and switchgear commissioning
Good understanding of protection schemes and relay testing
Knowledge of UK grid standards and safety practices (e.g., National Grid/DNO requirements)
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Relevant electrical engineering qualification (HNC/HND or equivalent preferred)
