Job Title: Staff AI Engineer

Salary: £120k-150k + Equity

Company Description: Covecta - Seed-stage Agentic AI platform backed by Salesforce Ventures

Job Description: As the most senior AI hire, you will lead the technical direction of a purpose-built platform orchestrating dozens of specialized agents across the financial services lifecycle. Moving beyond simple wrappers, you will solve complex document intelligence and multi-agent coordination challenges for major institutions like Metro Bank in a highly regulated, high-stakes environment.

Location: London, UK

Why this role is remarkable
  • Lead AI engineering at a startup that scaled from MVP to paying enterprise customers across the UK and US in under a year.
  • Work on high-stakes technical challenges including multi-agent orchestration, hallucination detection, and auditable AI for a $36 trillion industry.
  • Join a talent-dense team founded by former Mambu and McKinsey leaders, backed by a recent $6.5M seed round led by Salesforce Ventures.
What you will do
  • Design and own the agentic orchestration layer that coordinates 50+ specialized financial agents with human-in-the-loop oversight.
  • Architect robust evaluation and alignment frameworks to ensure accuracy, explainability, and policy compliance in regulated banking workflows.
  • Build intelligent document processing pipelines to extract structured data from complex financial paperwork like regulatory filings and credit memos.
The ideal candidate
  • Extensive hands-on experience shipping production-grade AI systems, specifically within NLP, document intelligence, or agentic systems.
  • Strong research instinct with the ability to translate emerging techniques into reliable systems using structured reasoning and guardrail design.
  • High-velocity startup mindset with the architectural judgment to make consequential build-versus-buy decisions and shape a growing engineering culture.
