Job Description

Support Citizens Advice Bristol as Interim Chief Executive, maintaining stability, leadership and income generation focus during an important period of transition.

Applications for this role close at 9 a.m. Thursday 28th May.

Who we are
Citizens Advice Bristol is a vital local charity providing free, independent and confidential advice to people across the city.

The organisation supports people facing a wide range of complex and often difficult circumstances, helping them to understand their rights, navigate systems and access the support they need. Its work makes a tangible difference to individuals, families and communities across Bristol.

Citizens Advice Bristol is part of the wider Citizens Advice network, playing an important role locally through partnerships, advice services and collaborative work with other voluntary and community organisations.

This is an important time for the charity. With the current Chief Executive due to leave at the end of June, the Board is seeking an experienced interim leader who can provide continuity, confidence and steady leadership while the process to appoint a permanent CEO commences.

About the role

The Interim Chief Executive will work closely with the Chair, Board, staff team, and key partners to ensure Citizens Advice Bristol remains stable, focused and well-supported during the coming months.

You will join at a busy and important moment. The organisation is leading significant partnership activity and we are keen to ensure this momentum is maintained. We also need to maintain our income streams to remain financially sustainable.

The Board is looking for someone who can bring calm, credibility and practical leadership. This is not a role that will simply be overseen from a distance. Citizens Advice Bristol is a relatively small organisation and the Chief Executive role combines strategic leadership with hands-on operational involvement.

The successful candidate will help maintain momentum, support staff and senior colleagues, provide confidence to external partners and help ensure the organisation is well-prepared for the arrival of a permanent Chief Executive. The process for that will take place shortly.

We are open to considering people who could go on to become Permanent CEO, as well as those focused on supporting us in the immediate future.

The contract will run ideally for six months, at least four days per week (28 hours).

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an experienced interim Chief Executive or senior charity leader who can provide stability, confidence and direction from the outset.

You will understand how to lead in a mission-led organisation where people, relationships and judgement matter. You will be comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels and able to work constructively with a committed Board and staff team.

Applications for this role close at 9 a.m. Thursday 28th May.
