Electricians Mate - Mechanical Labourer (4 Day Week)

First Achieve Engineering are working in partnership with a leading engineering and manufacturing company to recruit an experienced Electricians Mate / Mechanical Labourer to join their growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on individual with experience supporting electrical and mechanical installation work to join a well-established business delivering high-quality electrical distribution solutions.



The Role

The successful candidate will support the installation, assembly, refurbishment, and maintenance of electrical switchgear systems, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

This role would suit someone with previous experience assisting electricians, working on switchgear equipment, busbar systems, coppering out, and insulation work within an engineering or manufacturing environment.



Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the assembly and installation of electrical switchgear systems

  • Support work on:

    • Mechanical switches

    • Air Circuit Breakers (ACBs)

    • Busbar systems

  • Assist with coppering out on busbar systems to engineering drawings and specifications

  • Carry out rubbering and insulation work as required

  • Support refurbishment, modification, and maintenance of switchgear equipment

  • Read and interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation

  • Safely use hand and power tools

  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with health & safety procedures

  • Maintain high housekeeping and quality standards

  • Work closely with electricians, engineers, and site teams to achieve project deadlines



What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience working as an Electricians Mate, Mechanical Labourer, Electrical Labourer, or similar role

  • Experience within the switchgear, electrical manufacturing, or industrial engineering sector

  • Experience working with:

    • Switchgear systems

    • Mechanical switches

    • ACBs

    • Busbar systems

    • Coppering out

    • Rubbering / insulation work

  • Good practical and mechanical aptitude

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings

  • Good understanding of health & safety practices

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
