Rate: £750 per day plus travel and expenses
Contract Type: Contract
Duration: Initial 6 months (likely extension)
Working Pattern: Approximately 3 days per week onsite in London
Travel Requirements: Periodic travel to US offices and key stakeholder locations

Overview

Our client, a leading global insurance organisation, is seeking an experienced IT Finance Business Partner to work closely with the Global CIO and Technology Leadership Team. This is a highly visible role that sits at the intersection of technology, finance and strategic planning.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the technology financial planning cycle, providing commercial oversight of technology expenditure, supporting investment decisions, and ensuring robust financial governance across a complex global IT portfolio.

This role will act as the key financial adviser to technology leadership, driving transparency across spend, project investments, operational costs and strategic transformation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Technology Finance Partnering

  • Act as the primary finance partner to the Global CIO and senior technology leadership team.
  • Provide commercial insight and challenge across all areas of technology expenditure.
  • Support strategic decision-making through robust financial analysis and forecasting.
  • Develop strong relationships with senior stakeholders across Technology, Finance, Procurement and Corporate Functions.

Budgeting & Financial Planning

  • Lead the annual technology budgeting process and associated planning cycles.
  • Coordinate quarterly forecasts and monthly reforecasting activities.
  • Manage operating expenditure (OpEx) and capital expenditure (CapEx) planning.
  • Ensure alignment between technology investment priorities and overall business objectives.
  • Support long-range financial planning and technology investment roadmaps.

Technology Cost Management

  • Monitor and control technology spend across infrastructure, applications, cyber security, cloud services and transformation programmes.
  • Deliver monthly financial reporting, variance analysis and forecasting.
  • Identify cost optimisation opportunities and drive efficiency initiatives.
  • Provide transparency and governance around technology costs and allocations.

Project & Portfolio Financial Governance

  • Partner with Programme Directors, PMOs and Project Managers to ensure accurate financial tracking across technology projects.
  • Review business cases, investment proposals and funding requests.
  • Track project budgets, actual spend and forecast completion costs.
  • Support capitalisation assessments and investment governance processes.
  • Ensure robust financial controls across technology change portfolios.

Executive Reporting

  • Prepare high-quality reporting and presentations for the CIO, Executive Leadership Team and Finance stakeholders.
  • Produce insightful dashboards and management information for technology spend and investment performance.
  • Present financial updates and recommendations to senior leadership audiences.

Vendor & Commercial Support

  • Support key vendor and supplier financial reviews.
  • Assist with contract renewals and major technology procurements.
  • Work closely with Procurement to ensure commercial value is achieved from technology investments.

Required Experience

  • Significant experience operating as an IT Finance Business Partner, Technology Finance Manager or Senior Finance Business Partner.
  • Strong experience supporting CIOs, CTOs or senior technology leadership teams.
  • Proven track record managing large technology budgets within complex organisations.
  • Experience overseeing both operational technology spend and transformation/project investments.
  • Strong understanding of CapEx, OpEx, project accounting and financial governance.
  • Experience driving annual budget cycles, forecasting and financial planning activities.
  • Background within Financial Services, Insurance, Banking or a similarly regulated environment is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting global and geographically dispersed technology organisations.

Desirable Qualifications

  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent finance qualification.
  • Degree qualified or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Exposure to technology investment governance frameworks.
