Teaching Assistant - Specialist SEND School
Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant looking for a long-term role where you can genuinely make a difference every day?
The Education Network Birmingham is working in partnership with a wonderful SEND school in Birmingham to recruit Teaching Assistants for long-term supply positions. This is an excellent opportunity for passionate, reliable and committed Teaching Assistants to become an integral part of a supportive school team while gaining valuable experience within specialist education.

The school supports pupils with a range of additional and complex learning needs. Teaching Assistants play a vital role in helping pupils access their education, develop independence and make progress towards their individual goals.

You could be supporting pupils within whole-class lessons, small groups or on a 1-2-1 basis, depending on their individual needs. The role requires someone who can build strong relationships with pupils, recognise individual differences and adapt their approach to help students regulate, engage and succeed.

The school has a strong team of experienced teachers and support staff, with a positive approach to behaviour and a real focus on the individual needs of every pupil.

The Role
  • Supporting pupils with a range of SEND and additional learning needs
  • Working within whole-class, small-group and 1-2-1 settings
  • Helping pupils access the curriculum and make progress
  • Supporting communication, social and emotional development
  • Promoting positive behaviour and helping pupils regulate effectively
  • Supporting pupils to develop confidence, independence and life skills
  • Working closely with teachers and other support staff
  • Contributing to individual learning plans and EHCP outcomes
  • Supporting pupils during lessons, break and lunchtime
  • Providing personal care support where required
  • Building positive and professional relationships with pupils, families and colleagues
The Ideal Teaching Assistant
We are looking for Teaching Assistants who are genuinely passionate about SEND and want to build a career working with children and young people with additional needs.
You will ideally have:
  • Previous experience working with children or young people
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, Autism or complex learning needs
  • A patient, calm and nurturing approach
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to remain positive and composed in challenging situations
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A flexible approach and willingness to learn
  • A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for pupils
Previous experience within a special school is highly desirable, but we are also interested in hearing from Teaching Assistants, Support Workers, with relevant experience who are keen to develop within SEND education.
