An exciting opportunity has arisen at our Progress Rail Locomotive Depot in Longport for an experienced Locomotive Workshop Team Leader. Progress Rail Locomotive is a subsidiary of Progress Rail, a Caterpillar Company, specialized in manufacturing, maintaining and overhauling diesel-electric locomotives across the world. As a loco workshop team leader, you will be instrumental in the successful supervision of the team to ensure all production deadlines are met to relevant standards.

The role of Team Leader:

• Coach, mentor and lead a team, encouraging a high level of performance in self and others, undertaking performance management where needed
• Recruit & train all personnel including contractors

• Participate in the company appraisal process and employee relations meetings.

• Plan and distribute workload in the team to ensure deadlines are met
• Resource planning - annual leave, training, sickness absence
• Drive a culture of continuous improvement
• Provide technical expertise on all welding matters as required in line with daily activities as well as specific projects
• Take ownership of workshop housekeeping & daily 5S tasks, challenging the team where standards fall below expected levels
• Develop the workshop records and procedures in line with the British Standard.
• Carry out inspections, spot checks, final inspections to ensure standards are maintained
• Provide quality shift handover information to ensure minimal disruption
• Work closely with the Production and Depot Managers to ensure maximum operational effectiveness and minimum downtime for area of responsibility

• Maintain at all times high levels of professionalism and work ethics

• Leadership experience working in a Heavy Maintenance facility
• Clear leadership skills

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong track record of being a team player & encouraging a high level of performance in self and others
• IOSH Managing safely or equivalent would be a plus
