A senior kitchen role with responsibility, influence and genuine work-life balance

We are looking for an experienced and ambitious Senior Sous Chef to become a key member of our kitchen leadership team.

This is an important position within the business. We're looking for someone who can do much more than cook exceptionally well: we need a strong kitchen professional who can lead a team, run a busy service, maintain standards and confidently deputise for the Head Chef when required .

In return, we offer a highly competitive package of plus approximately £4,000 in annual tips , alongside a genuine four-day working week and rotational weekends off .

We believe senior hospitality professionals can have high standards, a rewarding career and a life outside work.

About Us

We are an established independent hospitality business that has operated successfully in East Yorkshire for more than 13 years.

Our venues include The Triton Inn in Brantingham, The Fox & Coney Inn in South Cave and the food & beverage operation at Brough Golf Club .

We have built our business around good food, strong teams and professionally run kitchens. We invest in our people and expect high standards in return.

For the right person, this is an opportunity to become an important part of an established business with the autonomy and responsibility to make a genuine difference.

The Position

As Senior Sous Chef, you'll work closely with the Head Chef and senior management team to ensure the kitchen performs consistently at a high level.

You'll be expected to take ownership rather than simply wait for direction.

That means confidently leading services, organising the kitchen team, maintaining standards, developing junior chefs and ensuring that the kitchen remains efficient, professional and well controlled.

When the Head Chef isn't present, you'll be expected to step up and lead the kitchen.

Your responsibilities will include:

Leading busy services and ensuring consistently high standards of food and presentation
Deputising for the Head Chef and taking responsibility for the kitchen in their absence
Supervising, supporting and developing chefs within the brigade
Setting the standard for organisation, professionalism and kitchen discipline
Managing preparation and ensuring the kitchen is properly organised ahead of service
Maintaining excellent food hygiene, HACCP and food safety standards
Monitoring stock levels, ordering and supplier requirements
Helping manage food costs, portion control and wastage
Supporting menu development and contributing ideas for new dishes
Maintaining consistency across recipes, presentation and portioning
Helping manage rotas, holidays and day-to-day staffing requirements
Identifying problems early and taking responsibility for resolving them
Creating a positive kitchen culture where people work hard, communicate well and support one another

What We're Looking For

This position requires someone with proven experience in a senior kitchen role .

You'll need excellent culinary skills, but equally important will be your leadership, organisation and ability to take responsibility.

We're looking for someone who:

Has strong experience as a Sous Chef or Senior Sous Chef in a busy, fresh-food kitchen
Can confidently lead a kitchen and run service without constant supervision
Has high personal standards and expects the same from the people around them
Is organised, calm and decisive during busy services
Understands food GP, stock control, wastage and commercial kitchen management
Has excellent knowledge of food hygiene and kitchen compliance
Can train, motivate and develop junior members of the team
Communicates effectively with both kitchen and front-of-house teams
Takes ownership of problems and follows them through
Is dependable, professional and leads by example
Takes genuine pride in producing excellent food consistently

We're particularly interested in people who want responsibility and progression , rather than simply their next kitchen job.

What We Offer

Highly competitive annual salary
Approximately £4,000 per year in additional tips
Four-day working week
Rotational weekend leave
4% company pension contribution
Free meals while on shift
Staff discounts across our venues
Regular staff events
A stable and established employer with more than 13 years' experience
A professional and supportive working environment
Genuine responsibility and input into the operation of the kitchen
Opportunities for further progression within an established hospitality business

The Right Person

This role will suit a strong Sous Chef who feels ready to take the next step, or an established Senior Sous Chef looking for a business where their experience will be recognised and trusted.

We offer a very good package and working environment, and in return we expect a very good Senior Sous Chef.

You'll be trusted with significant responsibility and expected to be someone the Head Chef, management team and wider kitchen brigade can rely upon.

If you're passionate about good food, enjoy leading people and want a senior position that combines responsibility, strong remuneration and a genuine four-day working week , we'd be very interested in hearing from you.
